I have. 2020 off road. I had a local shop do a 3+ inch lift, 33 in tires, tough country upper A arms, wheels and king suspension. Went off roading up engineer pass and blew the CV shaft and control arm linkage on my first trip. Durango Toyota said the shaft angles where never adjusted. I fear my local Wisconsin shop just didn’t k ow what they were doing. Any insights is appreciated.

At age is fixed by Durango Toyota. CV shaft pulled out and rubber boot was a twisted mess. Linkage was bent and broken. My taco is 3+ for sure.

Turning thru a switch back with rocks. They said that the off set from eight to left wheel causes the CV shaft to pull out. Suggested I should have added shims to better align angle of CV shaft so they weren’t so steep and it wouldn’t have pulled out ??

Hmm ok. We added the extra as the tires had been rubbing in the front. Lift solved that but created new issues it seems. This is my first ever Tacoma and nearly swore off them after this issue. Wish I had an expert shop in Wisconsin that could just set it up correctly.

Yes please don't blame parts failing because other parts that are aftermarket broke it.

That being said 33's no cutting or trimming when you lower from 3" down to 2.5ish is gonna be a trial and error. Stick around find a local TW thread in the region forums and read about suspension.

You need to do alot more research, there's alot more to lifting these trucks than just installing a set of coilovers and new arms. I run some pretty extreme trails in Moab and have never destroyed a CV. Good luck with your truck.

It's amazing how many people here make definitive decisions about what they "want to do" without understanding or attempting to learn about the limitations involved and what they "need to do" beforehand.

I was on TW day and night before I did anything to my truck. Listening to the TW Brothers helped me save money and build a very capable vehicle. Thanks TW.

I clear 33"s with a 2 inch lift at full stuff. Then again, I have a CMC and pounded my pinch welds flat. You can fit 33"s without a lift at all, its just what you're willing to cut.

Thanks all. Just joined this group today. Bought the truck specifically to take it to Ouray with my 16 year old son for my 50th birthday. Thought I did the right thing by taking it to a shop and getting what I thought was best parts possible. Trip turned out to be an expensive mess but certainly learning a lot. Appreciate the help. Won’t give up on Taco yet. Thanks
