Bed mounted d rings tie downs

What are you guys using for d rings on your beds that can mount onto the stock bed bolts to tie stuff down?

 

There was a thread about this very thing many years ago where someone found D rings that would fit the bed using the existing OEM bed bolts. Maybe someone can find iit for you....

Before you buy the Amazon one, note that one review stated:
"READ IF YOU'RE PLANNING TO USE THESE IN THE BED OF A 2016 TACOMA. These are described as D-rings but I think they are more like V-rings. This is a sturdy and well made product. I purchased these for a 2016 Tacoma knowing the holes needed to be widened to accommodate the 15/32" torx head bolts in the Tacoma bed. After evenly widening the tie down's 25/64" holes I found the head of the bolt is hitting the edge of the tie down that curls up (hinge side). So the bolt will not lay flat against the tie down."

Yes, the Dodge Sprinter D rings are awesome. Super strong and when you tighten down the bolt, they are tight so they don’t rattle and when you flip then up, they stay where you put them.

 

I'm getting these. Looks perfect.

 

Sweet! Start spraying your bed bolts with PB Blaster beneath the heads and at the threads under the bed, daily

 

Thanks for the heads up. I got a few out when I installed a bed reinforcement. Luckily I had no hickups. But really would like some tie downs in the middle and front of the bed.

I ended up rustoleuming the ones I got out and added anti-seize to the threads. Still holding up good.

It's great how much stuff is available for Tacomas. Parts and mods up the ying yang.

 

Oh man you got it! My worst one was the driver’s side middle for some reason. The ones closest to the cab are awkward because of the limited range of motion(didn’t use an impact). The bed reinforcements only require removal of the two by the tailgates, yes? Those are usually a little easier since they don’t see as much corrosion. I nearly punched one of my taillights when I broke it loose lol

 

Probably not a widespread issue, but I bought those tie downs from Amazon and they're rusting out pretty bad. I tried searching for stainless ones, but I didn't find any that would work or fit.

Yeah just the tail gate bolts and you gotta drill a few holes on the side which I sanded clean and hit with rustoleum since they are behind the tail lights. Don't wanna leaved exposed metal in Michigan.

Looks like I better get under the old girl and hit those bolts with some PB. Should do it even if I wasn't doing this job really.

 

Stainless would be awesome. Heck, stainless bed bolts would be awesome.

 

Naw man, it’s just from the salt air and sand here in Hawaii lol.

I think I sprayed the bolts daily for a week straight. I forget if the ones near the tailgate have “wells” but the other four sure do. That’s why it looks funky just above the threads. Water, mud, dirt and sand just accumulates between the bolt heads and threads. Just take a rag or paper towel to scoop out the best you can before putting the bolts back in. I cleaned the threads inside the best I could as well

 

Gotcha.

Had a cousin that lived on the Big Island for a few years. Married a local lady. Was fun to go out there and visit. Now they live in Arizona and have a small ranch.

 

Do you have to drill out the center of the Dodge Sprinter holes so they fit on the Tacoma bed bolts?

 

Nope. You just grind or file down the ridges on the bolt so you can slide the Washer off. Then slide the D ring on, slide the washer on, and bolt them in.

 

Does the washer from the bed bolts need to be used ? Does it need a flat put on it to fit ? Or are you just using the d rings with the bed bolt only ?

 

All you do is slip the Sprinter D ring on the bolt, slip the washer on the bolt, drop it in the bed and tighten it down. You don't need to grind on the washer. The only grinding necessary is the ridges on the bolt so you can get the washer off.

Some people use the caveman approach and just pound the bolt through the washer, but grinding down the ridges is so easy even a neanderthal can do it.
