    Hi all,

Recently bought a 2020 TRD Sport double cab and ordered a Prinsu rack, liking the style and modular build, its arriving next week. I'm looking at cargo boxes to haul around camping gear cause my bed will be occupied with kayaks or a canoe (picked up a bed extender from harbor freight). Looks like most popular Thule and Yakima boxes just attach to the crossbars. Does it matter if the boxes are longer than the rack? I can't find much info about this online. I'm assuming it'll work but just wanted to see if anyone has put a box on a prinsu cabrack. I don't think the shark fin antenna will be a problem either.

I have a box on my toprac. The Thule Atlantis XT1800 boxes have grooves in the bottom that help it “wrap” around the top of the shark fin. My box is long enough that it goes from middle of the cab to the tailgate of my DCSB. Hope that answers some questions.

Nice, looks like you got a good amount of storage there. Prob pretty easy to take on and off too. Still haven't pulled the trigger on one. Tough to find any available right now. Just wondering what size would work for a cabrack.

I prefer Yakima overall compared to Thule because of perceived robustnes, but this box has definitely taken a beating and held up. Additionally, I think the older Thule Atlantis XT1800 fits here best due to the grooves in the base and the shark fin.

The XT1800 fits about 5-6 snowboards with bindings and I’ve been able to throw in a few pairs of boots as well. I’ve also been able to toss in 2 fully loaded snowboard bags full of gear with some room to spare. I moved across the US with this and it’s pretty handy.

The only downside is it not being able to fit into parking garages. I’d also consider what you actually plan to carry. It’s bulkiness has been a problem for storage and with the 18cu ft. size, I could only fit on roof top bike rack (Yakima high speed).

Overall it’s nice if you want to keep other things in your bed, however this roof top box is best suited for sedans, station wagons and SUV’s. It is difficult to get to the roof and load it up, and the reason I use a roof top box on my truck is if I’m already overloaded.

Also in terms of fit, the two clamps on the roof top box grapple the prinsu toprac only. I tried to center the weight but if it’s too far back, the box will interfere with opening the glass door on the camper. I also tried to use the oem roof rack on my cab as an additional mounting point, and the rack sits too close to the body for the box to clamp onto the cross bars.

I think the 21 cu. ft. Units are the same in length except wider than the 18 cu. ft. And the 23 cu. ft. Boxes are the same length as 18, same width as 21, but height is increased.

is the bottom of that box flat?

the issue I’m having is that my Thule box and most available on the market right now, all drop down in front of the front mount and behind the rear mount. Fine for use on 2 cross bars, but won’t work on a long platform style rack.

It’s not flat but it works fine with the platform rack. There is a small drop in front and rear but not enough to affect the mounting clamps
