2006 Tacoma rear axle bearing

Need to remove axle bearing on 1 side of axle and I don’t have a bearing puller.Anybody
know someway to remove without puller? Thanks

 

Rears are pressed on the axle so have to pull axle and get a machine shop to do it - do both sides at the same time as if one goes other soon to follow.

 

You need the bearing puller tool and a press. Larzzzz here on TW made his own out of a junk axle housing. Then he took the tool to a shop and the shop bent his axle shaft.

Thanks guys. I had already pulled R side off and replaced only the bearing seal.The seal from factory had a gouge in it and
thought that was the problem. The bearing looked fine to me and my friend but I’m no mechanic.We put it back and 3 months later
it’s leaking a little bit behind the brake pads? I don’t know if it’s the bearing or hub assembly.

 

Yeah, PULL the bearing.
Do NOT press the axle.

This is one job I’ll be paying someone to do.
I don’t have the time, or want to risk messing up other stuff.

 

Check your diff breather, if it’s stuck closed, it will blow the seal out.
Mine did this and I didn’t enjoy the experience.

might be able to do it without, but it’s going to take A LOT of extra effort

 

I’d also recommend looking at and upgrading the rear diff breather. It’s in a horrible spot and needs to rerouted to a higher position at the very minimum even on a perfectly stock pavement pounder.

 

Does my truck have diff breather? It’s just a 2wd. That would be great if that was all it i. Like I said
Seal was gouged from factory and bearing looked good and had no play in it.

 

I guess if it’s clogged it could have blown my new seal out.

Thanks man way away from Mass. Down South Alabama.I will have to take to local transmission shop or
Dealership I can trust. I really don’t want to do a dealership.Its hard around here to find trustworthy mechanics.
