Well these rub a shit ton. Lol. Rather than cutting and regearing for 37s, i think i will wait for SAS and 40s. Cry once right.

 

FWIW, to make 37s fit and work right with IFS, I was looking at probably spending 10 to 12 grand. Most of that was budgeted for long travel up front so the tires wouldn't rub the frame too bad. The rest was budgeted for the 37s, 17" steelies (or used beadlocks), rear suspension overhaul, regear/ARBs front and rear, T100 rear axle, etc... In the end, you'd definitely end up with a rig that would be capable of doing everything from going fast in the desert, crawling over rocks, and everything in between. However, if you want to be able to tackle trails down in Johnson Valley, run through Fordyce on the weekend, or hit Soup Bowl on the Rubicon, a solid front axle makes doing that much easier.

I've basically reached the same conclusion with my truck and I'm really just buying stuff that either is just a nice quality of life improvement, or is going to be used later on down the road when I SAS. Price-wise, it's not much more expensive to do a solid axle swap if I was comparing it to the way I want to set my truck up for 37s. I'll get a better product if I wait, and that's what I've chosen to do.

Wheeling for sure! My damn welding lead still hasn’t shown up, so another weekend of just sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting to make progress -_-

And I’m not long travel, not yet at least, I’m curious how things will work once I cut and tub with the OME suspension. If I can keep things from breaking and just need a little more out of the IFS I’d consider moving to LT, I’d love to keep this rig IFS and highly capable and save the SAS build for a dedicated truggy or full on buggy for really getting crazy. I have an ext. cab frame in great shape and burnt out cab sitting and waiting up in mountains where I grew up, so the platform is there and ready to be started on when I finish this build..

 

In some ways I don’t think tubbing for long travel is any different than tubbing for stock because long travel gives a lot more up travel and even though the tires are further out they turn in at a higher height at full bump / full lock. I’m going off of what I had to do with my long travel kit and what I’ve seen other guys do with stock arms on 35’s.

And you forget that I do all the work on my truck myself. I haven't be able to get my truck in the garage because my dad has his rig on jack stands at the moment. So basically I'm waiting until next week to start at the earliest. Fortunately it's probably only a weeks of work to make her drivable again, but that has yet to be seen since I haven't pulled the t-case apart yet. The most I've done right now has been drop the skids and then wait because I ain't working in 114* weather.

Mine needs maintenance all the time. I find it easier to just run until it breaks then do trail fixes. Keeps the down time to a minimum. lol

Yeah, I would do the same if my truck wasn't also my daily.

No, I wouldn't for now. I guarantee you when I go to 40s and 5.38s, I'll be using the stock t-cases more often that the 4.7 gears. I personally feel like a 3.5:1 gear would be perfect with 5.29s or 5.38s, but that means shelling out the big bucks for an Atlas.
