So, two years of towing now with our TT 3800 pounds plus dog, plus food and coolers up down and all over Florida... but with trips to North Georgia mountains and NC included up to 5k feet or so above sea level. I am no longer bitching about the towing capabilities of the truck. Is it "different" than a V8 or diesel? Yes, but the 3.5 drops to third gear when needed (un-nerving) at first I get it... but it just drinks fuel. No issues whatsoever. I have a weight dist. hitch. A brake controller and don't ever feel out of control. I ain't getting there first but I am not worried about the truck. There you have it.... a positive Taco comment :) Happy Labor Day

PS my truck is lifted 6" on 33's so I was already concerned about towing...

What trailer do you have. Any pics of your rig? We’re considering a camper and I’d really like to keep my current Taco vs moving to a Tundra.

It's a 17FQ Coachmen. Full bath which was a must. 3380 plus gear, it's about as much as I would pull with my Taco... maybe a few hundred more if we had a slide

Nice to know! I pulled a rental that was about 3800 lbs through the Texas hill country. That was a bit of a workout and we saw 3rd gear pretty regularly when climbing. But 3rd gear above 3500 rpm is pretty stout and I had no worries keeping or gaining speed. 75+ on the highway was a bit more of a challenge and probably not something I would want to maintain. 65mph was no problem for 4th unless I caught headwinds or moderate grades. The challenge here is the left lane routinely runs 80mph and some 85+. So ‘creeping’ along at 60 in the right lane can put you at a 25-30mph differential which is a little much for my tastes.

    Work in progress...
I am really surprised how well it holds the speed down, in the lower gears, on the down grades.
