that would have been the "none of the above" option then.

    but that didn't happen.

rain, a little sleet and lots of wind. 20ish MPH gusts

think i cheated death 3 times today.

i made it home safe but it wasn't a pleasant drive. took me about an extra hour to get home. with the temperature change (80ish yesterday and 40ish today) i knew there were going to be some gusty winds. winds and the camper are not friends. thought I was going to tip over a couple times. pretty sure the camper shifted in the bed at least once. got really freaked out when another truck camper passed me on the interstate and I could see how badly he was leaning in the wind. then I got scared and took the next exit. took backroads for as long as i could after that, only got on the interstate when there wasn't another option.

but to start out my day.... I was about 23 miles up a single lane road. There are pullouts every now and then for opposing traffic to pass. Thankfully the skinniest portions of the roads are straight aways and you have good visibility to see if anyone else is already occupying that stretch. Most of those skinny areas are a 45* to 60* rock covered mountainside on one edge of the road, the single lane and then a straight drop into the creek. I was just approaching one of those stretches and was slowing down until I got a good look. A small rock maybe the size of your fist came rolling down the mountain and across the road and I flinched and slammed on the brakes. No sooner had Chebby came to a halt that a boulder the size of a dishwasher came crashing down about 10-15 yards ahead of me. About a half dozen smaller rocks about the size of a shoebox came down after it. The big one cleared the road and splashed into the creek. Most of the smaller ones got stuck on the road. I backed up to get out of the rocky area and back into the trees. Got out of the truck and watched/listened to see if more were coming down. Once all was quiet I went out and pushed them out of the road. Had I not of stopped or had I been traveling even 3 seconds sooner and not seen that little rock that boulder would have been a direct hit. Worse case it would have hit the front of Chevy and I would have steered directly off the road and into the creek. Best case it would be sitting in the passenger seat of the truck right now.

So....I don't know about you guys but my guardian angel deserves a good, stiff drink tonight!

not to mention needing new underoos.

this is where it happened. red line being about where the rocks came down. closer blue X is where I was first stopped, then backed up to the other blue X

And not that exact spot in the road but a general lay of the land....steep rocky slope on one side of the road and creek on the other
