I don't spend too much time on this forum, but has anyone else heard of a 3rd gen's tranny going out with so few miles?

There was a member back in early 2016- I think her name was perfect soldier.

Her 3rd gen. transmission failed at almost brand new and she got Toyota to buy it back, but had to nuke her account as part of the agreement if I remember correctly.

It’s probably happened more, but usually any lemon law or buy back stipulates confidentiality/ non disclosure and TW accounts get erased.

If you go through this and don’t get at a minimum a platinum protection plan for your troubles, you didn’t play your cards correctly, imo.

Wow even Chrysler transmissions last to 90 or 100k.
No seriously I have been lurking around toyota forums for a year just seeing what trouble people post about. Transmission failure is really rare. I'd say that there was some defect in yours. Let them fix it it should be fine.
I've paid for a remanufactured transmission from Jasper before on a vehicle, while not who toyota uses I'm sure they do as go as or better job making sure it's a good and tested before it goes out.

Maybe some Chrysler/Dodge transmissions last that long. My poor co worker went through 3 transmissions on her Dodge Grand caravan in the first 15,000 miles. Felt bad for her to. Single mom who needed her minivan.
Sucks to hear about the transmission problems OP! Toyota will make it right. As others have said, this is very rare for this to happen and once it’s fixed, I wouldn’t be to concerned.

I've heard that about fca mini vans. After hearing the newer Jeep's are not as good as my old one was that is why I went toyota this time.
I'm sure they will make it right for the OP. Toyota seems to have good reputation for making it right when things do happen.

Sounds like a fluke thing. You will be made whole again by Toyota and hopefully that will be your only issue.

I'm not familiar with "platinum protection plan". Is this an extended warranty I should ask for given the transmission problem?

Did they give any indication as to what caused it to go out?

*nervously eye balls my 2017 with 35k miles + armor and MT tires....*

No. When I go to pick it up I intend to ask some questions. From what everyone on here says, it was a freak occurrence.

It very well might not actually be a reman transmission. Toyota will sometimes throw a brand new transmission in a box and sell it to a dealer ordering the reman transmission if no reman is available. I can't imagine they've had many cores sent back to be rebuilt so there's a good chance this will happen. See if you can go down to the dealer when the transmission comes in and see if it has a reman tag or sticker on it. If it does end up being a reman it's really no different than a new one. They replace all the internal wear parts with new OEM and check everything else to factory specs.

After they fix it, go to the desk and demand a trade in or to buy it out

It'll be as good as a new one, it will probably get a more thorough going over than new ones. Any internal components will be replaced or checked very closely, I would worry at all. I would push for them to extend the warranty though. I don't think there is any need to demand a trade or buy out. o_O Sometimes shit happens.
