Oh nice. That's what I was thinking of doing.

Next is fixing my truck and making her run decent. :anonymous:

Yeah, now let's hope that my truck drives half decently after I finish working on it in a few weeks. :frusty:

I got attacked by a rock today.
I won’t have to rebuild that corner but I think fixing and repainting the trim would take a full day.
It looks worse than it is but needs maybe an hour to fix the seam in the back. It’s not waterproof as it is. Just needs some better adhesive. I used loctite PL8X. I should have used 3M marine 5200.
The rest can wait. It’ll probably be a few years.

Just went through the entire build. Love the box, really makes me want to start on one.
Also you brought up some good points on this style of construction vs welding everything. I think If I welded it all it may be worth trying to come up with a spring mounted 3 point mount to the frame. Like they do with semi trucks to help isolate the box from frame twist.

    Thanks! It’s a fun project.
I kinda paused the build and now I’m actually using it.

    Replaced the broken air box.
The break is upstream from the air filter. I caught it early but am still going to do some 2,000 mile oil changes.

The original survived to 248,000 miles but OEM is $490.
So I bought an $89 knock off from eBay.
Cleaned the MAF while in there.

Upgraded the windshield washer bottle mount from a bungee to zip ties.

After a trip I empty the fridge, turn it off, wipe it out with all purpose cleaner and prop the lid open so air can circulate.

I forgot to unplug it on Monday when I emptied it so it’s been sitting all week running with the lid open.

It’s been parked in the shade so minimal solar.
The batteries are down to 12.2 volts...50%.
Not bad for running an open fridge all week with almost no charging.

Edit: that’s 115 amp hours used in 5 days.

Speaking of batteries I’ve been thinking about this a bit more lately.

I’m running a pair of 6v Duracell golf cart batteries wired in series to make 12 volts. They’re managed by a ctech D250 and powered by the alternator and 2 100 watt solar panels. The batteries never go below 12.6 volts. So far they’re rock solid and way way more power than I need.

    The good:
-Combined they’re 230 amp hours and can be discharged to 115ah.
-They were $314 for the pair. That’s $2.73/ usable ah vs $12.50/ usable ah for a lithium or around $6 for AGM.
-They don’t care much about charge profile. I’m running a ctech d250se and they're fine despite that charge controller being optimized for AGM batteries. AGM batteries are super finicky about charge profile. If it’s wrong the battery can be damaged.

    The bad:
-The don’t do well with vibration. These sit on 2 layers of vibration damping pads...3/4” foam rubber/ each layer.
You can shake the shit out of an AGM or a lithium and they’ll be fine.
-They weigh 120 pounds. AGM would be the same, lithium would be half that but $2000.
All the below is easily overcome.
-They can spill. These are in acid proof containers.
-They emit hydrogen gas when they’re charged. A little ventilation goes a long way.
-They need to be maintained. I’ve checked the water level twice in 11 months and added 1/2 gallon total of distilled water.

I’d say as of now I’m happy but I’m really looking forward to Lithiums coming down in price.

    OOOOh kay. This looks interesting.
Forgive me i'm new to forums but it looks like there is 27 pages and 513 messages to this thread?
So is there a way to search for AC relay/ Pressure switch or do I just scroll thru till I find it?
Sorry I'm learning but thanks for the help. I thought I did some trick stuff to mine but you passed me on the first pg!

OK,thanks. That wasn't the search I was using.
But I am about 1/2 way through the 27 pgs of the string and it's very informative for a newbie_!
I'm kinda awestruck by all the work you guys are doing to your trucks.

Some of us get a little carried away.

What’s going on with your AC pressure switch?

My compressor grenaded itself a few years ago. I replaced all If my AC components. I believe the pressure switch was replaced as well.

I vaguely remember it being behind the glove box.

I'm really limited as far as computer skills here so I hope this is the proper place to respond to the email I received from you.
I bet I spent 4hr min trying to find info on the circuit that powers the compressor clutch.
I finally "Stumbled" on it I think. There was a similar post and a guy posted a partial wiring dia. that actually was 4 pages but I didn't catch that till I brought it up on my Kindle and swiped over it!
I'm headn outside to see if I can track it down now, thanks.
