Yeah, Mechanical is possible. Crew flight hours could also cause it. The Forest Service will allow you to fly 8 hour days, but only 36 hours in 6 days. Every 2 weeks, you have to have 2 days off. If you hit your 36 in 6, you can go over with permission from the incident commander. I think it’s 4 hours you can go over, but might be 8? I can’t remember. Anyways, if you go over your 36 in 6, that’s a mandatory 2 days off the following 2 days.

Sometimes they have to play the crew hour game to make sure they have pilots for when they really need the aircraft.

Working for the Forest Service is a pain in the ass. Half the stuff they do is backwards and the other half is slowed down by the bureaucratic BS so much that it’s too late by the time they get rolling.

passed my ground school a few weeks ago. Shame i cant afford to use it but it was fun learning everything. My friend is a CFI and charter pilot locally. My great uncle was a flight navigator for pan am on a stratocruiser (one that went down from SF to hawaii).

I was sitting on the tarmac at NAS Key West back in the 80s when a similar plane came through, but it had a few bullet holes in the glass...lol

Have you taken an introductory lesson? They used to be free. Save your money and if you want a PIC license you will eventually get it.:thumbsup:

I took a free ground school. Passed all the quizzes and tests. Not really gonna pursue it until I can do it right and I have more pressing financial needs.

They fired up and left while I was sitting there. I was also surprised with the amount of helicopter action that was going on at that airport

Most of them were probably headed here too! Billings is a busy place. And I think with the fire our airport isn't set up to load the planes with phoschek but Billings and Helena are so most of the travel was probably coming out of one of the two or both.

...^^^... Really nice aircraft  that is just a cool and sexy little plane ... nice pic too ... :) ... lol

Maybe ... because it reminds me of the J-Cub that was my first ride and my first love ... :D

There is just something about cool older aircraft and older muscle cars that can't be beat.

I did my float rating in a 90hp J-3. The most enjoyable 5 hours of training I’d done to that point, or since. Was obsessed with that airplane until I flew a Citabria. Being a bit stalkier than I was at 21, and the wear and tear of 25 more years of living, I’ve come to appreciate the extra width, and ease of entry of the Champ.
