My new Tacoma arrives tomorrow... finally. I’m having an outside shop put on a ceramic coating and full bra over the fenders, hood, front bumper, and mirror cups. Does anyone have advice or history on ceramic coating your wheels? The coating installer will not do it but he said he’d sell a bottle of the snake oil so i could do the wheels. Any thoughts welcome. Thanks

I’ve done it on all my vehicles and it helps cleaning the wheels, primarily brake dust. Now the Taco is pretty kind and doesn’t make that much dust compared to my other vehicles which have more aggressive pad compounds....and with no discs in the back makes an easy clean. However, I did Ceramic coat the new wheels.

If you do the ceramic coating, I suggest using a product like Sonax to clean the wheels as it is a good cleaner and will not slowly strip the ceramic.

You can buy said snake oil on Amazon for $20. Don't see the point though. Ceramic coating doesn't protect against scratches, and OE brake pads don't dust.

I'd use IronX or similar to clean before applying the coating.
Getting an even coat might be challenging; depending on the coating and it's requirement.

It’s easier than you think it is. Just watch some videos on YouTube and go for it. Follow directions on the package and you can’t go wrong.

I’m kinda surprised by that. The customs shop I went to ceramic coated the entire outside of the truck including wheels, step rails, fender flares, grill, head/tail lights, and windows.

It works the same way as it does on the paint; creates a hydrophobic surface so it’s easy to clean them with pressurized water, no scrubbing needed. No water drop spots remain either when they dry.

I guess my advice is to do research on whatever product you choose to apply

I painted these wheels with dupli-color and clear 3 years ago. They have held up well and I have never put anything on them. This past weekend I applied Nexgen to them when I did the truck. I'm impressed with the stuff. I hope it hold up but they are slick to the touch right now.

I got my SCS wheels ceramic coated. Adds a nice shine to it and easy clean
