How do the CFX3s perform in extreme heat?

We currently live in Moab (highs 100-110 F during summer) and are planning a long-term move to Phoenix. Our fridge lives in the truck (under a rack, shaded, decent airflow) year round, running off solar. We currently have a competitor's fridge which has had trouble keeping up: though to be fair one of our last campsites hit 126 F in the sun (104 in the shade).
We've been looking at a 75DZ - what performance should we expect out of that fridge under those ambient conditions?

 

If you've not seen this energy consumption graph it might help. The behavior of ambient temp to energy consumption is pretty linear so you can likely predict where you might be depending on which size you go with. Given you'll be pushing the cooler pretty hard given these temps your energy consumption is going to be high.

There are a lot of factors that will come into play - how packed will the cooler be, how chilled do you have it before leaving, how many times you open it and for how long, etc.? If you were able to keep the cooler in the shade you should be able to keep up as long as you have power to do so.

Thank you; I had seen the graph but didn't want to assume linearity that far beyond the plotted line.

Just to confirm, in the shade with an ambient of 120F the 75DZ should be able to maintain 5F with a power draw of ~ 6 A or 39F with a power draw of ~ 3 A?

If so, I know what my next fridge will be. Thanks!

 

To be candid, we've not extended the energy consumption analysis to include sustained conditions like you describe. The CFX3 line is designed to work with ambient temps +16 °C to +43 °C (+61 °F to +110 °F) and there is a sensor that will shut the cooler down when high ambient temps are exceeded. Given this, even with keeping it in the shade and with good ventilation, you'll be close to the limit. It's a bit of a toss-up whether or not the ambient temp sensor will trip. If it did, you'll see the condition both on the app and the unit itself so, at least, you'd be aware that it might be a time to find a rock ledge, pine, or something else to pull under for a bit to reduce temps for everything.

Being in Colorado I've not run into these temperature extremes using a Dometic cooler. I have been to Moab in the summer without a cooler and have made a point only go in the other three seasons going forward

This is fair; I appreciate y'all testing your equipment up to the temps which you do and providing that data. Good point as well re: the ability to monitor through the app when pushing equipment beyond rational conditions.

And yeah... I tell folks to visit spring or fall. Cold water is one of the little luxuries that makes summer camping bearable.

Looks like I missed your question. I apologize for taking so long to get back to you.

The latest on the slides is that they now won't be available until late September. We'd hoped we would have them much earlier this year, but with the pandemic and it impacting various supply chains, they've kept getting bumped delivery-wise.
