Idiot on Cape Lookout National Seashore

Sure hope this isn't anyone on the board. We have few enough places here in the southeast to enjoy without some bozo getting another one closed. Portsmouth Island (North Core Banks) is truly a gem - twenty miles of uninhabited and unspoiled beach open almost everywhere for free dispersed camping. One of the few Park Service regulations posted in multiple places is 'No driving on the dunes'. From what I've read on other boards, this guy was lucky the rangers found him before some of the dedicated surf fishermen did.

If I were law enforcement, I wouldn't hesitate to impound the vehicle and tell this ass-hat he can take an uber to his court date.

Not seeing such a notification doesn't mean it can't happen. You don't see "you'll get a ticket for speeding" on speed limit signs.

My brother used to work law enforcement at an OHV park. There is a sign at the entrance that says something to the effect of "you are responsible for know all rules and regulations." This is generally true anywhere. People would always tell him "I didn't know that was illegal". First, as I said earlier, ignorance is not an excuse, but my brother's favorite thing to say to people was that 99% of all the other people who come here probably didn't know it was illegal either, but they managed not to break that rule.

It very well may be published somewhere, I’m just trying to understand if it is. Otherwise you are advocating LEO going vigilante style on people and wasting the courts’ time.

 

I, as a layman, am advocating that this dipshit *deserves* to have his vehicle taken away because he can't follow the rules.

An actual law enforcement officer would obviously do what is legally allowed.
