Ended up buying this OLD MAN EMU set up and they just arrived. Bummed out because from the looks of it the shock looks like it’s shoot dead. It seems like the spring was installed wrong making the spring hit against the shock. The shock appears to be swollen with a bump. There is some type of grease on the shock. When looking at the whole strut assembly it looks as if was bent. Seller never disclosed this with me.

Definitely looks tweaked. Any chance of sending back for a refund or a paypal dispute?

total junk...if you end up getting jacked on the deal, I have a set of Bilsteins (oem shocks from my 2015 trd sport) with Old Man Emu springs (885 or 886 i'd have to check) and leveling spacers you can have if you just spring for the shipping.... they are in good shape and have roughly 30k miles on them ...

That sucks. There is absolutely no way all that happened in the course of shipping; the rubbing of the coil is a dead giveaway that it was like that prior.

I'd be asking for a refund and/or filing a dispute. Seller should be ashamed of themselves for trying to pull that garbage.

Spring just needs to be spun so it seats properly in the lower cup. Shock is still straight But looks like it has leaked quite a bit.

That stated, why buy used non rebuildable shocks is beyond me.

Also stock TRD Bilsteins are NOT 4600's

seems to be another misnomer that the stock yellow Bilsteins are the model 4600, I bet a lot of people get mislead on that one too

I know CRAIGSLIST sellers are notorious for not coming clean on these type of sales, I bought a set of takeoff tires TOYO A31 from a CL seller and I went to buy them the guy was waiting for me to pick them up with 2 tires in his hands ready to load up, come to find out one tire had a side shoulder plug that couldn't be repaired but of course wasn't mentioned, BUYERS BEWARE

If they aren't 4600s than what are they? A cheapened version of 4600 mass produced for production vehicles?? Was unaware of this, did not intend to mislead.... but whatever the case I have the stock shocks with OME springs and leveling spacers from my 2015 TRD Sport if he needs them.... They are in perfect working condition and if there is any concern over the set up, I ran this identical set up on my old 2005 TRD O/R for well over 120k miles with zero issues .... Only reason I took the current set I am offering up from my 2015 is I switched over to Camburg ball joint UCAs and Toytec pre-assembled coilovers with 5100s....

4600's are the same physical size (diameter wise) as the 5100's (46mm). The ones that come on the tacoma's stock are definitely not 46mm in diameter. Just some OEM shock made by bilstein, that stated they are a good replacement stock shock.

The coil looks like it isn’t seated in the lower mount, which could be causing it to look tweaked. I’d bet if it was corrected, the coil would straighten out. All that damage on the shock body tells me it was installed wrong from the beginning and run that way too. If there’s no leaks, the damage may just be cosmetic though.

The myth that the 4600s and the TRD Bilsteins are the same has persisted here for many years and unfortunately continues. FWIW, I called Bilstein a few years back and got one of the engineers who would talk, most will not. I was told that indeed the 4600s are not those that come on production trucks.
