Looking at putting a camper shell onto my daughter 2013 ext cab prerunner. It's going to get a 4wd swap somewhere down the road since she wants to start wheeling with it and camping out of it. Thinking of starting her off with a shell and sleeping platform to make things easy.

What's a decent price for a used shell for her truck? I seriously doubt we will be able to find one color matched so not too worried about that just yet.

@Atl-atl, wish you still had your 2nd gen shit, I'd probably spend some money with you since you had an outstanding setup!

Here's her truck. No luck selling so she is keeping it. Going to need to get a locker for it too. Planning on a Harrop like I'll be doing in my 4Runner.

I do still have the plywood platform and mattress I made for it. You can have it for free, its just annoying me in the garage at this point. Its in 3 pieces so you can remove it or move them around to access whats underneath if needed. The mattress is mold/mildew/UV resistant indoor/outdoor patio furniture material and I sewed it together with a zipper that runs the full length so it can be removed and washed if needed. The foam is 3" medium density foam, its really stiff, like sleeping on the floor stiff. She might want to replace the foam with something softer hahaha. Not sure if the dims are identical between 2nd and 3rd gen beds. Mines a 3rd gen not 2nd. The platform pieces are made to rest on top of the ledge that runs around the whole bed which is also at the top of the wheel wells.

Yeah, if you are giving it away, I will definitely take it off your hands! Dimensions should be close enough to work, I doubt they changed the inner dimensions of the bed that much. I have tools to so can make it work.

Think it will fit in the back of the 4Runner so I can pick it up?

it will all definitely fit in your 4runner. The plywood pieces are roughly 2x3 feet and the mattress is foam so you can fold it or roll it or just stuff it in ha.

As for toppers. I really liked having a softtopper because it protects stuff in the bed, you can fold it open or completely remove it in minutes by yourself and it gives plenty of protection from weather and bugs for camping. Only problem is its not really secure for valuables. Theyre only like $800 new and you can find them used pretty cheap. Theres a buy/sell thread for them in the 3rd gen forum so I bet there is one in the 2nd gen forum too. They are different though, youd def want a 2nd gen one.

if youre set on fiberglass just watch Craigslist regularly, they come up more often than youd think. Especially for 2nd gens.

Cool. I'll shoot for this coming weekend to pick up the platform from you then, if that works for you.

Ok, sorry about that. Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Highs in the 60s and lows in the 50s. :bananadance:

Nice! Safe travels man! And no worries, I'm not in a rush for her truck.
