    Hi
whenever I go into reverse... my drive shaft makes this squeaking noise... is it dry or something is rusty? I dont hear it when I drive forward. My wife had to drive the truck so I can hear this noise... I looked down... I hear it from the driver shaft...she didn't run my face over... that's a plus right?! haha

I greased the rear shaft but its still making a creaking noise.... again, it only does it in reverse.... I drove around my block and going forward I dont hear anything... I hate that noise... I might have to bring it to a mechanic to look at it...

Did you check your carrier bearing also? If its tore up it can cause problems

It doesn't sound like a center support bearing/carrier bearings

you said rear was greased but there are 3 I believe. Is it a rotational sound(repeating or constant while rolling)?

this is very strange... it only makes this creaking noise when I go into reverse but doesn't do it when I go into drive. I greased 2 zerks from what I found on the rear part of the shaft. It didn't sound like it was coming from the front... i dropped it off the mechanic down the street from me (good dude)... he is going to look at it. Look, it sounds like its the drive shaft creaking maybe its something else... (shrugs my shoulders)

Hey! I don't want to freak you out, but I figure I'll tell you my experience with this exact same issue. My Tacoma was squeaking when in reverse also, it sounded like rubber on metal so I immediately checked the centre bearing. I checked everything I could without removing the driveshafts. Centre bearing was not bad (yet), U-joints seemed OK, drive shafts weren't sloppy... I had my coworker/mechanic friend under the truck in the pit while I drove in reverse and he couldn't tell where exactly the squeaking was. We lubricated the bearing and joints and it helped the squeak, but a few days later it was back... I just ignored it for a couple weeks, then I checked it again, this time my centre bearing was pretty sloppy so I planned to replace it. I had my Journeyman from work help me pull the drive shafts and bearing...

What we found was pretty bad. My U-joint bearings had completely grenaded. They seemed very solid while installed, but as soon as I removed the shafts from the diff and trans output the joints fell apart. The caps were basically just holding the broken bearing rollers in, but the bearings were toast. We both couldn't believe how bad the bearings were, but they showed no signs of problems (other than squeaking in reverse), until we pulled the drive shafts.

So my Journeyman and I took a trip to pick up some new U-Joints from the nearest parts store. Replaced everything. Greased everything. Torqued everything.

Problem solved, no more squeaking. This was about 6 months to a year ago? I've been checking my joints/centre bearing periodically and I have found my centre bearing has worn out again... My previous bearing last me about 3 years and the one before that was over 5. I think I need to adjust my driveshaft angles or look into other causes, but I haven't had time and until recently I didn't have the space to do it.

So back in Fed 2020, I had the u-joints replaced.. he looked at the carrier bearing but that wasn't it. I greased where I can find on the zerks and he also greased/top off too... so far It has been ok.... what is this centre that you are talking about??

Oh, my bad, I call the carrier bearing a centre bearing.

speaking of which,,, i drove to my son's soccer game and back up I heard it squeaking again.... I dont hear it going forward and I got new U joints, no sound from carrier bearings and all lube up!! this is very strange... I got home and went backwards couple of times... it would go intermittent. I hope the drive shaft isn't going bad...
