Hum, I don't know about that.
I have both a 1-gen and a 3-gen and the 1-gen (1996) has 414,000 trouble-free miles on it and my 3-gen (2018) only has 23,000 trouble-free miles on it, so it will be a while before I'm ready to concede 3rd-gen is the best.

Well I just replace my 96 lower ball joints for the first time back a couple months ago at 413,000 miles and have no rust issues.

My only issue with the newer trucks is that they keep adding stupid, fragile features I don't want or don't care about that balloon the price in place of stuff that has worked fine for decades.

Unfortunately, this pretty much applies to every vehicle on the market.

Yes, I am the oldest young man on the planet.

I understand and agree. One thing to keep in mind is most of the “features” are actually just programs that the ECU runs, so there is no additional hardware added. For instance Crawl Control, VSC, Auto LSD yadda yadda.......these are not hardware-based, just programs that use the existing anti-lock brakes and throttle controls etc.

In some way vehicles are simpler, with less vacuum actuated gizmos and linkages etc. But yes, harder to fix when they do break.

I like all Toyotas. Fun to have some inter-gen turf wars nonetheless.

GM can go suck a kolbassa as far as I’m concerned. Worse quality than those Chinese knock-off Jeeps.

:rofl:My 84 rode like a lumber wagon, no AC, no power steering, had to push it over the mountains, it was good for pounding hemorrhoids back into place though!:D

It's the things like all the electronic 4wd actuators that get me. Shifting into 4wd was reliable for years with manual tcases. But, now we turn a knob instead of pulling a lever and there are at least 2 electric actuators involved, both of which have issues.

The screens in the dash that make it more expensive in the name of bling also make me raise an eyebrow. How long are those screens going to last, and when you get to replace them, how much are they going to cost?

That said, I don't miss carburetors.

And yes light hearted turf wars are a fun Monday activity.

I don't understand all the hate between Tacoma owners. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Gens are all awesome. I mean it could be worse, you could be driving one of those Honda "Trucks"!

Best for what? A daily driver? Sure.. I'll go along with that. Just don't call it a work truck because that screaming motor would drive me crazy trying to pull my typical loads.

It’s more like sibling rivalry, not hate.

The second gen guys are the awkward “middle child”. 1G had to do everything first, and 3G gets all the love. 2G gets ignored by mom and dad, sitting in the corner with its goofy fenders.

Toyota has already released some numbers on the 4th Gen.

    It’s gonna have a 2.0L V6 that makes 450HP at 11,500RPM, with 200ft-lbs of torque at 5000RPM

    Stoked!
