    Hi all,

Thanks for all of your continued support on TacomaWorld.

We wanted to reach out and ask you all what you think about an upcoming potential add-on to our 3rd gen rear bumper with BSM compatibility.

So far, we've received quite a few comments regarding how far the bumper pokes out past the bed side. A popular comment being, "it looks like you slapped a Tundra bumper on a Tacoma!".

Well, to put it plainly... those BSM sensors are big suckers! Unfortunately, Toyota didn't leave much room to play around with below the taillight, thus the bumper has to poke out just a tad...

In reality the bumper only sticks out .75" from the taillight (not exactly enough to catch on most items on trail).

Regardless, we thought that we should release a part that attaches to our bumper to make it more flush looking. Attached are some photos of our CAD model.

Now, we do still have a high clearance option coming for you guys, but were still waiting on some other Tacoma products to launch first, like dual swing outs that retain BSM compatibility!

Our questions for you all are what you think of the design? Does it compliment the Tacoma better? Would you prefer a weld on or hidden bolt on piece? Should we just incorporate this with our next gen bumpers? What do you guys want to see? Taco Side Armor 1.jpg Taco Side Armor 2.jpg Tacoma Side Armor 3.jpg

Do you have a render of the previous design for comparison?

I don't think it needs to be so long. If it were just a ~two inch taper I think it would do the trick. With how long that is I would be worried about it flexing and rubbing on the bed side. My preference would be to have it built into the bumper. But stop working on that and get us a HC dual swing out option!! :D

Are the BSM's going to be exposed? Or are you making some plastic cap to finish off the corner cap and hide them behind it. Looks good!

I agree with @tacomarin, I’d go a couple of inches shorter. Keep up the good work! When I can talk the CFO into a real bumper, yours is the one for me.

I think I prefer it with out the extension panel.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for a HC bumper.

I don't have any plans for a steel bumper because the stock one has been serving me just fine. However, I have long regarded yours as the only one I would ever get if I did upgrade. To be honest, the .75" poke doesn't bother me at all. I prefer function over form (within reason) and that slight overhang is a very small price to pay for BSM functionality. Having said that, it might look better if it followed the natural body line of the quarter panel.

Thanks, yes we have 3D printed Nylon covers that finish out the corners of the bumper.

Good to hear! We're excited for the HC option. Just finishing up some details on our modular dual swing out tire carrier and then its off to the races!!

Don't be teasing us like that... c'mon... give us something. Even a blurry phone pic of it on the screen of a computer far in the background. :D

What about a tube style guard instead? That way it weighs less and you still gain added functionality with the poke.

Do you have any pictures of these covers on a truck? Also, you mentioned in your last bumper thread that you will consider a nylon cover without the built-in step. Any progress on that? Thanks!

Yep! We can totally make a non step cover plate. If you email us we can have some made for an extra cost! Here's a photo of one of our customer's rig with the standard cover.

We thought about that too, but we'd like to keep the angular sheet metal theme going for the rear. Could be a possibility later though. Thanks for the feedback! Saw your comment earlier about the original design. Go ahead and check out our gallery on our website. There's some renderings there.

Well, if you ever change your mind and want one we're here! Haha, glad to hear the poke out doesn't bother you. In regard to the body line comment, the way the fenders bulge out of the bed side prohibits us from following that line, so we tried to make the cut off parallel to the fender flare.

Fair enough. Any idea yet how much extra weight these extensions would add?

From the photos, I THINK I like it without the add-on. Would prefer bolt-on if I were to ever change my mind.
Any chance your bumper could be ordered without the holes cut for the Baja Designs rather than a plate to cover them?
