I took my truck out to the other side of the state this weekend. The ride was exceptional, very comfortable, until I ran across the grooves that the transportation Department cuts into the road for traction. I could barely control my truck, not so bad in some areas, so bad in others I thought I had a blowout.
My truck is completely stock and has the stock Firestone destination LE2 265/65/17’s.
Is this a function of the trucks suspension, the tires, or both? Has anyone else had an issue like this?
Everywhere else I drive, could not be more happy with the ride. I have experienced this to some degree in all my vehicles, but never to this extreme.

Since you are good to go otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it. Just make a mental note to be cautious if you are through there again or take another route. Maybe fire off a message to the DoT? If they get enough complaints, they might try to correct it.

I always thought that wiggle was fun on steel grate bridges. It would get annoying over many miles though.

Around here, the road maint is pretty bad and heavy vehicles will wear in wheel ruts. We have had a couple narrow cars that would wander on the hump. Just the nature of the beast.

Actually I did have to slow down to 50 in some spots, I didn’t know about NC, but here in MI you can take a bullet for going that slow on the highway... just saying

Probably more a DOT issue than a Tacoma issue.

What’s the tire pressure at, reason I ask is the new 4Runner we bought was at 55 and hard as a rock on the drive home from the stealership.

The road and tires are the most predominant factors. Usually concrete is scored perpendicular, though it offers better braking traction in adverse conditions it's pretty noisy for both passengers and homes nearby. Scored parallel is less noise at the trade off of less braking traction and more tramlining. Wide low profile high traction tires as common on sports cars are the worst - eventually you get used to the wiggling around and tend to be more lax on steering input. About all you can do stock to help is reduce the tire pressure a bit.

Pure anecdotal, but those Firestones were the first and only set of tires I have ever thrown away before they were worn out. I took mine off after putting up with 12,000 miles of squirrely handling, especially if I was driving through a light rain/oily surface. When I traded trucks I had the dealer swap my old half-worn falkens to the new truck.

Its a terrible tire that maximizes mileage and dry traction at the expense of every other driving condition, IMO.

The really bad areas are not that often, I will just need to anticipate and be ready.

Good to know, I have not heard anything good or bad about this tire prior to your comment.
