I just had my 5,000 mile service done at the dealership covered by ToyotaCare. This being my first Toyota, it was a mixed bag experience. Mostly seems like a waste of time. I was told my tires and brakes were in good condition, my floor mats had not migrated, and my wheels were rotated.
The thing I did not like, was the dealership I went to had a separate building/staff just for routine maintenance. I'm not sure if this is how all Toyota dealerships run their service departments or not.
I was having issues with my hood latch not releasing when I pulled the hood release lever in the cab. I asked them to look at it when I dropped it off for the 5,000 mile service. I was told they cannot troubleshoot issues, I would need to make a separate appointment with the "Toyota master technicians". o_O
This is the first time I've brought a vehicle in for routine service and been told they couldn't look at an issue while the car was being serviced. Usually if I have an issue that isn't critical, I'll wait for my next routine service and have them look at it then. Apparently you can't do that with Toyota, or at least this particular dealership.
Overall the truck was in and out in 45 minutes, which I can't complain about. But on the other hand, I feel I could have received the same quality of service at Jiffy Lube.

Next time mark your oil filter, and each tire. Fuckers generally don't do shit.

Toyota says it's normal. I always have negative experience at dealers, never even neutral. So I'd call yours a win.
I'm tired of dealing with them, and it's caused me to just do everything myself, cause it takes about the same time and I do it right. Plus it's fun helping my friends learn to.

Happened years ago on my first visit with my 15, my 5th Tacoma so I know how Stealerships work. I marked the oil filter and each tire in the rim as to where it was. 20 minutes later they came out and tell me truck is all set and here are my keys. I took pics of all the markings on the tires and oil filter. So in turn I was like that was fast, that's how we do it here sir. I open the hood, same filter. I look inside the rims, same markings as before, bring it all to his attention and all I got was talk to the Service Manager. Got in the truck and never went back for shit.

oil change is only ever 10k. I paid to have my oil changed at 3k, then toyota care took care of it at 10k. Otherwise your inbetween service at 5, 15, 25, etc is just rotating tires, looking at stuff, and calling it good.

My dealer has the same thing. I came with a host of questions, but car was taken to the quick service side, and was told to fuck off/make a new appt.

It is a complimentary service, same as a "breakfast" at Holiday Inn.

Thanks for posting! I'm 2,000 miles away from needing my first service. I'm curious to see what/how they do.

I was thinking of marking my tires, just didn't do it. Since there was no oil change on the 5,000, I didn't do anything to verify the oil/filter had been changed. I may do more work prior to the 10,000 mile service to ensure the dealership does what it's supposed to.

Since my wife and I got married I've caught quick lubes and the dealer pulling so much crap on her. Took them twice to find a bent away bar, caused by bad end links. She's learning how to do brakes next year, I told her if she does it she can use the half she saved from doing it herself to go shopping.

How does marking the tires show if they've been rotated?

I did get a little sticker in the upper left reminding me of my next service date and/or mileage. I didn't know dealerships still did this, I haven't seen one since I owned a Civic back in the early 2000s. Not really a fan of this, looks cheap, like I just took my car to Jiffy Lube :)

That makes sense. I was thinking people are marking the sidewall against the rim thinking they just rotate the tires...not remount them on the wheel lol

    Sorry to hear OP.

I've always had good experiences with my service department. I checked oil after and it's clean and at the correct level. Tires HAVE been rotated, I have some tiny tiny marks on my rim's so I know they were rotated. Always been quick.

It's been a few years since my toyota care expired so I do all my stuff now. I still go back for annual inspection and they check everything else and I get the paper work for tire tread level, brake pad level blah blah blah and they log all my maintenance to carfax so I have all access to that. Never try to tell me or sell me on services that I know I don't need like air filters etc.
