Am I missing a skid plate?

I just got my first 2nd gen and am checking stuff over. It seems I am missing a skid plate? I have what looks like a stock on (Radiator Support Spray Shield?) that covers the front, and then an additional one that comes up out front more over it.

However, neither of these goes back far enough to cover the front diff or the oil pan. That can't be normal is it? There seems to be mount holes on the cross member for something to attach to.

I also can't seem to find a stock skid plate number anywhere on Partsouq

Only offroads cover the oil pan. All 4x4 and pre runners get the forward plate.

 

They all have the black stamped steel “splash guard”

The TRD models have an additional aluminum cookie sheet “skid” but it’s pretty useless and easy to destroy.

 

So that additional one that comes out the front more is also stock since I have the TRD Sport?
But since it is not the OR all my important stuff is left out in the open to get destroyed?

I guess I will look up aftermarket skids. Any cheap recommendations? Most that I see are $300 plus.

I don't wheel often, but if I do I don't want to mess stuff up

 

The pan is actually tucked away, its pretty hard to attack a tacoma oil pan, but it all depends on what you want to do.

The stock plate is good enough for light logging roads, but if you're going anywhere with loose or sharp rocks its worth upgrading.

The diff is more vulnerable and thats the biggest pro to upgrading the skids right away.

3rd gens fit 2 gens correct. Can change oil without removing?

 

I put the factory "skids" on from a 19 OR model due to mine being ultra rusty. They are exactly the same.

If you can wait for the next holiday sale, I bought my all pro aluminum skid on July 4th sale with their 10% off along with an additional 10% off email signup for $250 shipped. They had the same sale last week for labor day(lame excuse for me to buy a rear bumper)

 

I reiterate: The OEM “skids” are brush guards. The OEM “skids” should do fine on the beach and fire trails. For more protection get aftermarket 3/16 inch steel skids.

 

C'mon, any rock will self destruct when they see a skid that's stamped "TRD" (Tacoma Rock Destroyer) approaching it... No?

 

TRDs do not have an oil pan skid, at least mine did not. Pan is up high so Toyota did not supply. The transfer plate is a small afterthought also. Gas tank is a plastic plate. E-locker unprotested. So if really going off road a full set of steel plates will protect you. A real transfer plate has arms out to the frame. I have All Pro and Budbuilt. Lots of rock scraps. Sliders for really heavy use in rocks/trees for door protection if so inclined.

 

Is there just a rear skid that will protect the front diff out there that is cheap? Not trying to spend a lot of money, but don’t want a weird rock or something to cost me thousands?
