I assume it's surface rust and nothing to worry about but I noticed that my passenger side manifold already has rust on it and the truck only has 2,700 miles on it.

Not sure if this is something to be concerned about or if there are any solutions to fix/prevent this from happening in the future.

Function over form on this one so if it just looks bad and won't rust away over time then it's just going to have to look ugly for the rest of it's life.

I mean.. its not going to be pretty forever. :notsure: Dont worry about it. It also looks like you had to stick your phone deep in somewhere to get that shot, so likely no one else is going to be able to see it

As long as she runs I am not concerned :D. I guess I'll remove the WD-40 sprayers I installed to keep the manifold lubed up.

    Thanks!

Might have been like that on the lot. Normal and nothing to worry about. Hit your frame and underside with fluid film before winter if in the salt belt.

This happens after a few heat cycles, perfectly normal.

Yeah I'm in North Jersey and we get hit with salt pretty bad during the winter, usually try to wash it multiple times a month but fluid film may be the way to go before the truck sees any salt. Thank you for the suggestion.

Yeah I did mine last fall before winter and already bought more for later this fall. It’ll make it look greasy and dirty down there cause stuff kind of sticks to it, but it works. If you fluid film it don’t be blasting it all off with a pressure washer until into the spring. I didn’t even really wash my frame. I’ll probably pressure wash the underside a few days before and just hit mine again later this fall.

That is a good tip, I probably would've shot it all off with the pressure washer. Either way it's definitely worth keeping up with it whether you film or wash it frequently throughout the winter. I assume a few coats of the fluid film will last a majority of the winter or do you wash and re-apply throughout the season?

Nope. I think I used 4 cans last year maybe 6 can’t remember. I bought 6 this year but should probably buy a gun and buy a gallon. I sprayed it on and coated everything that wasn’t wires, rubber, or gets hot. It coated it well and other than washing the truck itself, I never wash the frame well, or reapplied. Plan it so it can “dry” for a few days before it rains etc. it’ll stay on there and it will protect it. I had junk Chinese bolts holding on some aluminum running boards. The bolts that I hit were oily and dark looking, but like new when wiped off, the few I didn’t spray had a lot of visible rust. It works and I highly recommend it over washing. More protection than frequent washing, Unless you are washing the truck every trip. It’s wool wax so not petroleum based, smells kinda weird at first...
