ask my wallet about my modifications...
    Hi all,

Sad story... my 2005 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner Access Cab was stolen early last Friday 8/14 around 4:00 am in the Marina district in San Francisco. It was my 3rd trip down here from Portland to help a friend do some work on her home. I've been a long time lurker here on the forums since I bought her down in Los Angeles, where I used to live.
She has a 4 letter Oregon bicycle supporter licence plate that's easy to spot (see below) and she has a small dent in the lower driver side door from some numskull at the supermarket.
I found this picture online which looks almost identical, same color, wheels and mods. I had just put a bug deflector, matching window deflectors and tinted the front windows but hadn't had time to take any photos before she was snatched. I guess it's time to start looking for a new Tacoma but I don't want to give up hope I'll get her back. I filed a police report, there wasn't much stuff in the truck when they took her which was lucky, i'm just sort of in disbelief that my truck is gone.

If you see her out and about, be safe and let the police know. Thanks in advance!

Hopefully someone just took it for a joy ride and parked it somewhere. Happened to me a few years ago. Finally about 10 days later I go a call from the police saying it had been found. Might be tough in the city tho! Sorry man. Keep an eye on Craigslist and offer up

Quick update, still not found :-(
I posted an ad on Craigslist and you can’t believe the cRaZiEs who just like to make trouble.
I don’t feel quite so bad anymore as I went and did a thing...

It still stings to lose a truck I’ve driven every day for almost 16 years, but this helps!

SF is a crime ridden cesspool. Crime there is out of control. There are over 100 car break ins every single day. Police do not even respond to vehicle break ins. If they catch someone in the act they just write them a citation. Lots of daily stolen vehicles too. I was born and raised in the Oakland Bay Area but will never set foot in SF again. It’s Just become a bad place. I’m sorry for the loss of your truck but it’s certainly no surprise that it was stolen while in SF. I hate to say it but your truck is likely already in Mexico or Central America or has been stripped and not much left. Sorry to be so negative but it’s the reality of SF and other major cities now a days.

I work in The City most days of the week. I still find that safety of my work equipment isn’t the biggest issue. I find the biggest issue is the rampant, in your face heavy narcotics use in the tenderloin, coupled with homelessness. That’s a dangerous cocktail.

I befriended a few homeless guys. The ones that don’t like to cause trouble you’ll start to recognize. I learned that there’s a specific mailbox in the Tenderloin that the homeless like to use and wait for their “stuff”.

The reputation of the TL hasn't changed much in 30+ years..... The drug of choice might have, but the social issue has definitely stayed the same.

The crime and drug problems are now all over SF and no longer mostly in the TL. Addicts can shoot up in public everywhere and police don’t do anything. Homeless Can camp on any sidewalk anywhere and nothing is done. Crime of all kinds is rampant all over the city. As a whole it’s a bad place. I wouldn’t want to park my vehicle anywhere in the city.

I feel as this is a generalized mischaracterization of The City. People and city government are trying, everyday, to find ways to help those that need help. A lot, and I mean a lot, of money is being pushed forward to try and service all those needs as well as still treat the problems with humanity and empathy. As with all parts of society, there are a very select few who choose to exacerbate the problems by taking advantage of beneficial systems. There are a lot of good people out there that need help but don’t know how to reach out for it, or are too proud to accept it. If we can find a way to help those less fortunate, it can only benefit the entire society. A rising tide lifts all boats...

This is getting to close to political so I’ll just comment on the quality of life there. I’ll just say this, nothing is getting one tiny bit better in SF. Crime is increasing, homelessness is increasing, drug addiction is increasing. People shoot up on the public sidewalk with no consequences. There are used needles and human feces all over the city. Prostitution is basically legal there since prostitution laws are not enforced. It is not illegal to poop and pee in public on the sidewalk and street. I worked in SF in the financial district for 20 years. I saw first hand the steady decline of all aspects of the city. The quality of life there has been in steady decline for many many years and it’s getting worse. . If you want to get your car broken into or stolen, no better place than SF. If you want to get mugged I know some places it is likely to happen.i use to take dates to SF , we had great times. I wouldn’t take a date anywhere close to the city now. There is no mischaracterization here, these are facts. If you value your Tacoma it’s best to not take your eyes off your truck or just stay out of SF .

I see what you are saying. I just choose to look at it from a different angle. I can only hope, and help to solve the problems that The City is currently under water with.

And I genuinely feel for the OP. Sorry for the thread hijack.

As someone who lived in the Rust Belt for awhile and a specific Rust Belt city I won’t name, SF has theft and property crime issues but I’ve never felt like my life was in danger there.

I’ve been robbed at gunpoint in the midwest and also spoke to a cop 20 minutes before a car drove up on them and unloaded a clip and killed them. SF has problems but it’s not a war zone city like some in the Rust Belt.

Sorry about your truck that sucks man, at least nothing was inside.
