edit 9/16/20: it was only residual oil. it hasn't re-appeared after 11,600 miles.

Hey, everyone. With approximate 500 miles on my new TRD OR I noticed oil starting to seep between the bell housing and the engine.

I realize I only have 500 miles on it and I should probably give it more time to see what it does but I'll admit that it's a bit disappointing since it's a new truck.

Anyone see this on their truck this soon after driving it off the lot? I will keep a close eye on it, hoping it's just residual oil from the factory but something tells me it's not just going to go away... but you never know.

Check out the pics. I wiped about half of it off with my finger to check to make sure it was oil before taking the pictures.

Hoping to hear some opinions on this and what you would do if you were in my shoes.

Toyota is going to say that's normal seepage and not an active leak.

I agree that it is prolly residual oil from manufacturing. It couldn't hurt to have a dealer look at it and get it documented, though.

Take pics and take it to the dealer and have that documented. Do not clean that up until the dealer sees it. They will do a diag and probably tell you to just watch it for a while.

I would definitely get it in and at least have it documented in case it turns into a bigger problem.

But this is why new cars have a warranty.

Don't take it to the dealer, hose off with brake clean and move on with your day. Showing up at a dealer is going to get you a big nothing burger. It's not an active leak

I had my RMS leak on my 17 TRDOR at 11k miles, from a faulty seal. Remove that plastic black piece and feel if there’s more oil in that channel or on the top side of the plastic piece. Brought it to the dealer to document. They did a dye test, cleaned the area and had me drive another week to confirm it was my RMS. They replaced it in a 2-day turnaround and I haven’t had an issue since. Despite what other people have commented about it being normal, it isn’t. Start with what I’ve pointed out and go from there. The dealer is not out to get everyone. Especially if you go in with a cool head and respectful manner.

You already have the pics to document it.

I'd clean it off and give it some time...another 500mi? Then re-inspect and see if present to rule out assembly/normal/etc.

Thanks for the replies. I took the plastic cover off and took a peek in there. Not much to see, pretty clean, but I did 'finger' the crevasse  between the bell housing and the engine and could feel a fine oil film. At this point I'm thinking it could definitely just be residual oil from the assembly process. I'll keep an eye on it and see what it does, and post back down the line with an update.

I don't mind a little oil seep here and there, especially if it's the valve covers or something along those lines but anything coming from the RMS area freaks me out a bit.

Wanted to update the group: this ended up being a non-issue... after 11,600 miles, the oil never came back. It was more than likely just residual oil from the assembly process that collected dust... I hadn't washed the truck when I noticed it.
