If I have the 2L doesn’t mean I have to use the 2L.

To ride my local trails is a constant 3.5 miles up the hill from where you park to get any good riding. That’s where all of my drinking happens. It’s a slower pace that has me probably drinking 20 oz right there. Just small sips all the way up.

Once I’m up and riding it doesn’t get too much more gone though.

With the reservoir full how much storage space is in the pack? I'd like to be able to fit a couple beers and a light fleece layer or light rain jacket. I'm not sure if that's getting to ambitious for fanny packs or not.

Only used it a few times. Last night the bladder was about 3/4 full - front pocket had a tube, levers, protein bar, wallet, phone, and my keys. I think you would be fine.

I will say this, buying stuff using certain apps or sites pays off.
    **shameless plug on recent purchase.

So, I use Rakuten and Befrugal, and because Befrugal has a “best cash back guarantee” here’s how well they treat people.

Idk, where they pulled the extra $12 from or how they justified it, but cool beans. Just for clarification Rakuten was offering 8% and Befrugal was offering 6%.

The reservoir is in it's own compartment and doesn't really affect space in the storage pocket. It's also got two straps underneath that I use to strap knee/elbow pads or a jacket if I'm really cramming stuff in my fanny. I find that the only downside of a full reservoir is that it doesn't conform to my back as well and it's a bit more uncomfortable.

I've fit two beers, a jacket, and like 1L of water for some local rides. I've also fit a jacket, sandwich, snacks, 1 beer, phone, keys, and full 2L reservoir in this fanny pack for some big rides. All of my tools/spares are on my bike frame.

Oh my! How did I not see that! I guess I'm just a bit fast and loose with my fanny. I'll try to be more careful with my bum... bag

I find the backside of the ridge more fun - you should give it a go next time you're out there. The trails around Sulphur Pond are pretty good, and looping from Lower Buck Trail to Deer Lake Trail is a good one too.
Looks like clean air for the rest of this week. I'll be out there forsure. Stoked in it.

Well damn, I was going to say there's no way you're getting a few beers and light jacket in the pack, when it's full of water but I guess you can.
My pack usually has OneUp pump, keys, phone, pb&j burrito, and full of water.
Totally forgot about the under straps for the jacket but still, I can't see adding two beers. I've packed less water and gotten a flask in there - but still, two beers seems like a lot.
    Tools/spares mounted on the bike.

Agreed - was just along for the ride with a few friends. We missed our turn and ended up getting back to the staging area around 8:45

One of my parts counter guys knows Mitch. And he agrees, he is ridiculous. I guess he rides Nitro Circus with a guy from Idaho Falls that is pretty intense too. Granted they ride BMX on the Nitro Circus tour. But still. Mad props. I don't get off the ground much anymore. Every time I feel it I leave the ground and what I had pictured in my head is opposite of what my body actually does and I like to land sideways. And I don't heal up like I did in my 20's and 30's anymore.

Anyone ever used "helicopter tape" for frame protection? I was about to buy the All Mountain frame protector kit, but the tape is cheaper and you get a lot more.

Oh cool! I didn't see the bottom straps when I was looking at the photos on backcountry.com. That will definitely help out! I've got a smallish frame bag that I keep some tools and extras in so those won't be taking up any additional space in the pack.

Great find! That may be the only fanny pack with a native 2.0L bladder out there. Thank you!

Right on. I'm ordering that one now.

I don't really want to use the mounts on the underside of the downtube -- I will if I have to someday -- so the Spur frame only holds a single 21 or 24oz bottle for me. After switching to a fanny pack with just 1.5L (50oz), I began running dry on water a few miles short of the end during a lot of my rides out west -- especially in the deserts of AZ.

I drink water 24/7, so I can survive without water toward the end of my rides. However, doing so is far from pleasant in the mega heat. For that reason, I'm currently hunting for the biggest bladder I can fit in my fanny. (*giggity*) I really don't want to go back to backpacks...

I want to know, can I just buy the wide Velcro straps on Amazon, I know there’s different quality of Velcro, but do the MTB specific ones actually follow this? It’s just holding a tube

Yeah the heat will get you. Even in Virginia with the humidity. I just don’t do well once it gets hot haha
I used to use whatever the cheapest velcro strap they had at REI. Anything will do haha. Just be careful because I have had one break from over tightening it.
