Leaf Spring Bushing Press

I know it's probably been done a few times but here is my $10 leaf spring bushing press.

Use an impact wrench to tighten the screw/nut and press the bushing in or out.You will need a 1/2 drive socket to use a spacer when the nuts gets good and burried.

1-1/2"x3" Galvanized pipe nipple.

7"x1/2" bolt


Some misc HW

• 2-1/2" Square Strong Tie plate
• 4x 1/2 Washers (helps things move a little better)
• 1/2" Nut
  
• 3/4" Nut - used as spacer - You will need this when the 1/2" nut is buried in the nipple

Interesting I guess that would work in that part of the world .

I made something along those lines 20 years ago or so.

Once it got tight the threads just stripped

Tried again with Grade 8 bolts and nuts the only difference was it got tighter before it failed

 

Hmm, maybe that bushing was horribly rusted in there? I've pulled the original bushings and the new bushings (on the new leafs) with this and it was fine, but maybe not as useful where they salt the roads.

 

kinda how I do the lower control arm bushings too.
Works pretty good. Keep those threads lubed.
