Found out this week that my grandfather flew in China in WW2 and flew a float plane at Bikini. His flight logs include flying scientists to measure radiation at different distances and one trip taking 6 goats to be put on the deck of a ship after a blast to time how long they lived in the radiation zone. I need to get my uncle to send me a copy of the complete flight log.

USS Iowa in San Pedro. Like all of the remaining battleships it will never move again under her own power.

Yet they displaced a full functioning Liberty ship to give the Iowa priority.

    Politics as usual.

For what? Being the most technologically advanced service? Or how about having the highest standards for enlistment?

During WW II they had the highest per capita losses. They learned from that and today they first obtain air superiority the take out command and control. Then once the ground troops do arrive the USAF provides transportation, communications and, oh yea, close air support.

No branch acts alone the interconnection between the services is what makes it all work.

The old “my service is better than yours” doesn’t play well today.

Do you want to rethink the WWII comment?

Pretty sure it was army back then. Just sayin.

And this isn’t really the “today” group.

Yes during WW II it was part of the army much s the Marines are part of the navy.
I should have made it clearer. My point was they learned from earlier experience. These days their casualties are very low thanks to the way air war is now conducted.

I think you missed the point. Those are the blue angels in the Air Force tweet.

He's totally fine with honoring the best flight demonstration team in the birthday tweet, he just wanted to let you know how he felt about the evolution of the Air Force and it's doctrine.

Yes, air war against farmers is fairly safe these days.
