Pelican vs. ROAM cases

I'm planning to purchase some storage solutions for my roof rack but can't decide on Pelican Cases or ROAM Cases. What's your opinion? Pros and cons?

They both seem great, but I'm only purchasing from one company. Anyone?

 

I have no personal experience with the ROAM cases , but I've been very happy with Pelican over the years.
They've never given me a reason to look elsewhere.

Broke a latch on one of my Pelican cases a last year. Called them up to see what I needed to do to get a replacement.
Lady that took the call said no problem, give me your address and I'll send you four, just in case it ever happens again.
A good initial product coupled with that kind of customer service will keep me around.

 

I would vote pelican just because they're proven. They're great cases and have been around for awhile. I haven't heard of ROAM before. That's not to say they're not good, but that's my train of thought on picking one.

How are the Plano cases holding up?

 

One of the ones I have I found on the highway 12 years ago... it fell out of someones work truck. Still works great, no cracks, no holes, hinges still work, latches all still work too.

 

Something else I like about the Pelican cases..





Where are the ROAM cases made?

 

Oh wow. I've never heard about the Plano Cases, but I might actually consider it. I read some reviews and they're pretty good for the money, durability, and quality

 

Didn’t know they had a factory there. They have another near me in Torrance, CA. I’ve used Pelican for TV/Film equipment for 20 years and have never had an issue. Their customer service is top notch. I once had a shipper rip through my 1650 and Pelican let us swap it out no charge. Can’t beat that. I’m a Pelican lifer. I even use a small Pelican Air has my carry-on for travel.

 

Almost everyone I know with plano cases on their roof rack has a leaking issue at some point, myself included. I don't recommend them anymore for that specific application.

 

Pelican has an awesome warranty. When I was working, we shipped test equipment in Pelican cases and FedEx would tear them up. I’d contact Pelican and they would send parts including extras and if the case was damaged they would send a replacement. All I had to do was drill some holes in the label and send them that picture.

 

Yes, they are not really water tight. Though you can put a seal in the channel to make them water tight.

Plano is decent for regular stuff. I have a few rifle cases and storage. They do the job. They leave some to be desired if you are looking for all weather or water tight seals. The ones I have mounted to the truck are supposed to be weatherproof with pressure seals but I got tired of the pool of water that was in them every time I opened them. Another buddy added an extra layer of RTV or a rubber gasket and its been solid. I have not seen that with Pelican but something to consider.

 

Without seeing those other responses the timing was perfect. 2nd that.

 

I've owned a lot of Pelican cases over the years and none of them have had issues. I've beat on a few pretty bad and I've only managed to break the latch on one. There were 5 more latches so I didn't replaced it. It never leaked water (on my roof rack) even with the broken latch.

How did you mount your Pelican Case?

 

Sorry man, I've only used them for firearms, cameras and the like.
No advice on mounting, although there should be plenty available on here.

 

I mounted mine on my Prinsu roof rack. I drilled holes in the bottom of the case and used stainless u bolt hardware to secure them to the rack cross bars. I used black RTV on the drill holes to make sure no water could get in from the bottom.
