Typically when I drive off after the truck has sat for a few hours, I will get an audible "CLUNK" when I brake for the first time. It doesn't happen every time I brake but definitely the first time after sitting. I thought it was in the transmission but it happens when I touch the brake pedal.

    Thoughts?

Caliper slide pins click as they wear.

Brake pads shifting fore and aft against the calipers. Most noticeable on my truck when backing out of the garage.

3rd vote for the brake pads.

there is also not much to be done about it. Just part of the design. Just ignore it and realize nothing is broken.

    Same here.

Most people refer to it as pad slap.
I almost considered it “normal” on these trucks. It can be even worse if you use cheap pads. The dimensions of the pad and slide pins can play a big role in the sound.

Ok, this may sound like a funny question but it is a clack that you hear, or a clunk that you feel?
