Sat my fat rear end in it.
And it doesn't stop asking until you have stopped driving for a while. The first time I got a rental car with lane departure assist, I quite naturally felt compelled to try it out. My drive that day was conveniently on some quiet rural roads, so I let the car ping-pong itself between the center line and shoulder stripe for a while. Little did I know I would be triggering the digital nanny in the dash to chide me for the next three hours.

Guess it's probably a good thing I didn't get in an accident later on down the road.

I literally did the exact same thing. Tested the limits and let it bounce itself back and forth.

I rented a RAV4 in Tahoe this spring (that car had great fuel economy for size and AWD) and it had the lane correction feature and I also found it unnerving and disabled it.

Right. It totally does. But sometimes that coffee cup comes on after a short while when I am driving. I think it triggers if the lane assist activates X number of times as well.

Now guys, I am a very slow and steady conservative driver. I am not swerving all over the road but rather veering around all of the freaking massive potholes we have here in NY. Also, when they do decide to do road repairs they lay down these large sheets of metal that are never flush with the road. They are annoying bumps in the truck (TRD OR) but just shake the BMW to its frame. It is really terrible.

Setting aside how that data gets used in court (I think we worked through that here!) the insurance companies are going to use the number of lane assist activations and every other data they can to stick it to us. It is starting to happen. Look at this:

"Oh what a feeling: New Toyotas will upload data to AWS to help create custom insurance premiums based on driver behaviour
Connected car vision has been in first gear for years, cloudy scale could jump-start plans"

Toyota reckons the data could turn into “new contextual services such as car share, rideshare, full-service lease, and new corporate and consumer services such as proactive vehicle maintenance notifications and driving behavior-based insurance.”

    https://www.theregister.com/2020/08/18/aws_toyota_alliance/

There it is. Driving. Behavior. Based. Insurance.

this is old news they have been tracking is for years. When I had my 06 gen2 they were recording if I was wearing a seat belt. How fast I was going and god knows what else. All this information was being turned over to insurance companies

"Safe Driver Discount" that hooks up to your OBD has been a thing for quite a while.

My safe driver discount should be based on my claim record. Been with the same insurance company for almost 20 years and have never made a claim. 3 cars, a boat, and a house. Have they offered me a discount? Nope. They want your info to sell to 3rd parties with those trackers, that's all it amounts to.
