Hey family, some sad news to report. I bought my Tacoma brand new in 2006 with only 11 miles on it. To date, I've driven 224, 000 pain free miles without a single issue, until 2 weeks ago. My sons fiance was driving, heard a loud bang and then drove another 2 miles until it died, and dead it is. My mechanic says the water pump failed, oil became super heated, long story short, heads are cracked, valves have dropped, radiator cracked in half, timing chain blew apart, etc, etc.

Trying to figure out if I spend 7 grand to swap the motor and other parts or just sell the truck for parts and am looking for some opinions. It's a PreRunner, quad cab, short bed, 2x4 with SR5 and TRD off road package.

Sorry for that news. Sucks that it didn't happen on your watch to determine everything that was going on prior to the loud bang

I was hoping someone might have better contacts for that stuff. He quoted me 3,600 for the engine with 12k, 12 month warranty plus 2,600 to install. Radiator and assorted parts were another 900, plus the 850 I'm already in for the current teardown and diagnosis. I'm not a mechanic, hence seeking advice.

7 k is p damn steep. I got new plugs, toyota oem head and hg, along with all the proceeding gaskets to change when doing the job with labor for 3 k on mine. They flushed my coolant, refilled, and did an oil change as well. To add the bottom end to my job idk if itd add another 4k onto that. Id ask around a bit unless u trust that person/company that much
