you know the stuff that goes on top of a taco.
When you get done laughing il'l start with the story, go ahead ill wait.
Yeah my wife didn't laugh either.

Anyway, I was searching for a cap for my DCSB and came across this leer XR100 decent price not far from home wrong color.

I decided to go the route of painting it my self.
It had a few scratches on the sides and a couple nicks to take care of.20200905_130559.jpg 20200906_095229.jpg
    Popped up a paint booth.
    20200906_162837.jpg
wet sanded it with 400 grit taped it off and got it ready to start.

Filler primer over the sanded scratches and nicks. Then automotive primer over the whole thing.20200906_173813.jpg

Another 400 grit wet sand. I should note. I was using the 400 because thats the finest menards had.20200906_180900.jpg
first coat of color. This was duplicolor BTY1619 color match for the toyota MGM. 20200911_150127.jpg
15-20 minutes between coats i wiped the whole thing down with tack cloth every coat. after 3 coats i let it sit overnight and most of the day with a dehumidifier and a heater in the paint tent. Probably about 78ish degrees in there.

At this point I was happy with the sides, the top... not so much. It was streaky/stripey zebray. Tried every 5 minute YouTube video trick I could buying 2 more cans of paint at a time. Total of 4 coats on the whole thing and a "mist" coat on the top to try and even it out.

At this point I was tired of working on it and having the tent in my garage. And it wasn't getting much better. So I said good enough its time for clear.

3 heavy coats of clear. A wetsand with 2000 grit. all I had to polish with was some cutting glaze and hand wax.
finished product, you can see the streaky top but the sides don't look too bad. I can't say I'm happy with the finished product but I forsure was tired of working on it. Overall I have about 160 bucks into painting it. I'm sure I could have gotten a professional to do it for not too much more.

We'll see tomorrow how well the paint actually matches when t put it on the truck.
