Anybody have information on getting an out of state vehicle inspected and registered in the state of Texas? Planning a move next year and looking up the process. If I understand it correctly, you must do it the following order:

    1. Move into new place to establish residence and obtain physical address for later proof.
    2. Visit a vehicle inspection place in the county that you moved into (reason for getting a physical address in step 1) within 30 days and pass vehicle inspection (how strict are they? I have lift, bigger wheels/tires, removed mudflaps, steel front bumper, tinted windows, cracked windshield)
    3. Once you pass vehicle inspection, you have to get your Texas Driver's License within 60 or 90 days?
Am I missing anything or get anything wrong?

Ok tinted windows, if they check them, no more then 35% for front windows, front windshield none.
On the windshield if it’s in your line of sight, it will need to be replaced.
    Bumpers are not an issue

Once you get basically settled, find the not so good part of town and get your inspection done there, it’s a piece of paper that need to signed so that you can get your plates.
Done, now ya have ur new tx plates

Do they actually meter the tint? My front windows are at 35%, but not sure how consistent that is between different film brands. The windshield crack is towards the lower half in the middle, doesn't obstruct my view.

Some places actually do, not always but just be aware.

The trick we used growing up for too dark tint around houston was to go into the inspection with the windows rolled down. Not sure it still works...

Proof of Texas insurance. Insurance from your previous state will not work.
