    Good morning all

42F. I have to trim the damn hemlocks today. Nothing like standing at the top of a 10’ ladder on uneven ground waving a pole hedge trimmer over your head.

Discectomy at C6/C7 when I was in my early 40s. Never swung a golf club again. That’s only one of 10 actual surgeries that I’ve had in my 54 years not counting all of the tests where you get to hear “slight pressure”. Bullshit. It’s no slight pressure. That’s sharp pain. Fun times having an emergency colonoscopy while being awake. Better yet, have a bladder issue? Think about how they get in there... That’s peel you off the ceiling pain or lights are going out pain!

I have a roof height hedge of podocarpus gracilior and a 10’ landscaping ladder. I’m guessing you have this all figured out for yourself but I’ve fine tuned a little bit since taking on the job of keeping it trimmed.

I don’t own any gas powered tools as we are a tiny lot in a dense urban setting. I do have an itch for real space and real tools. In the meantime my arsenal includes:

    1. Dewalt compact reciprocating sawzall. I use this to prune big stuff from safer heights when growth is in the wrong direction. Got a set of tree pruning blades. Works great and safe enough with one hand while the other clutches something safe.

    2. Fiskars pruning stick. This made it way safer and easier. I use it for most of the cuts up high. With the right motion and stable shoulders you can whip the cut branches to the pile without looking.

    image.jpg

I’m still looking for a small electric chipper. I’d have to keep it in storage for fear of the kids finding it. It would need to be quiet too. But I’d like it to be powerful and I have 220 in an accessible spot. If anyone has recommendations on this one I’d be interested.

Not likely, he is 20 miles away. We have a water bed, he wouldn't be able to squeeze under it.

@#$%& mosquitoes! I got hammered last week. 30 bites on my legs. I was working out back yesterday and sprayed off with deet and still got about 5 more bites.

They are a very small version that you don't even see. I have been here 20 years and have never been bitten before this week.

Skeeters have been relentless here all summer. Last night was super bad. Only time I've seen it worse was our 1000 year flood in 2015. Usually get 3 or 5 every time I go outside

The damn hemlocks are, no check that, were about 14’ tall. They are now 10 - 12’ tall. I have a Stihl battery operated pole hedge trimmer with the articulating head. I do like that pruning stick. Also have their commercial head battery weedwacker. I’ll never get a gas powered one again. Of course, I may just hire out trimming them. 90’ long - both sides. Standing on a 10’ ladder on wobbly ground isn’t what I find fun. Typically, I only climb up to kitchen chair height.

You inspired me to do my palm tree today. It’s just about as high as I can reach standing on the top rung. I cling to the tree with one hand and saw or tear with the other. It’s quite precarious. Probably not much longer before I can’t do that one any more. Technically it’s on city property so it’s their problem but I had to do something with the kids today and gardening counts as something.

    So noticed something interesting.

    went to pick up prescriptions.
Noticed they just put the flu shot sign up.
I vary rarely get one cause I got real sick From the flu one year.
    Related or not doesn’t matter.
So with the Covid shit I made a decision ( right or wrong) to get one.

    They cleaned the area.
Then they put a bandaid on it. MMMMMMMMM
Then they stabbed me through the bandaid.

Anyone else have a injection done this way?
    Never heard of it before...
