The whole "flashing" thing is anecdotal at best. I've been flashed at least a half dozen times when my truck was completely stock with dim factory halogen low beams and no lift.

 

Agreed. The challenge for me has always been how to improve my night vision through better lighting without bothering oncoming drivers. Some folks don't worry about that second part very much.

 

Since we have many SS3 users here - you should know that your SS3 pods are IP69K rated! We just received word from a third party lab that the SS3 meets this high-durability waterproof rating.

 

Kinda like too much fog on the floor show.

If they are 4000k, then the best performance halogen bulb color match would be the Osram Nightbreaker Laser +150, which I've measured at a little over 3600k in post #2 of the headlight thread here. It will be closer, though not perfect. You can get whiter fully coated halogen bulbs, but there will be a significant performance penalty. If they are 6000k there is no getting anywhere close to that with a halogen, you'd need to go to LED. The best LEDs I've tested are the Hikari Ultras which have the smallest cross section for best focus in the 3rd Gen projector. Peak intensity won't match that of a performance halogen, but it will get the 6000k color match.

 

Old Quote. Buuut I just installed DD Sports on my Limited that had OEM H16 fogs. I noticed how hot they got while aiming them. Should I be concerned? Is the stock wire gauge sufficient enough to run the DD? I usually run DRL and fogs in the morning.

 

Your stock H16 bulbs were 19w, the SS3s are 14.5w, so you are actually running less power through the wires. The same wires are used for the TRD 55w H11 fogs as well, needless to say they will be fine. LEDs do produce heat, and the back of the pod is the heat sink to radiate that heat away, it is supposed to get hot.

Stay away from anything with a blue coating. Although it may look cool, it cuts down (significantly) on light output.

Definitely no. A halogen with a dark coating needed to achieve 5000k color temp will have very low output. If trying to match 4000k, the Osram Nightbreaker lasers are about 3600k by my numbers:

If wanting to go higher in color temp, output will be reduced. You can look for some bulbs near 4000k that are fully coated, they will be more of a ‘styling’ bulb than a performance one regardless of what the package says. The higher the color temp in halogen after the mid 3500k range, the lower the output.

Sorry very off topic but finally got my ss3s but stuck on the wiring portion as my car did not come with fogs.

This guy tapped into 12v using a male/female adapter but I can't tell if I need to use 2 prongs or 1. (Red cable) Will I damage my car if 2 prongs are used?

 

You have an SR without fog lights and you want to add in your ss3’s?

Just wanted to say thank you for everyones help. I was finally able to install the ss3's (sport model) over the weekend. Since there are no available brackets for my vehicle, had to do some rotary work on the inside of the bumper to make them fit. Yes, it looks horrible but happy they are finally secure in place.

 

Might look rough from the back, but a typical truck motto is function>form. Props for being innovative and making it work.
