Also the MPG youre getting is an anomaly even for 3rd gens. Most 3rd gens are not getting over 25mpg. Atleast thats what ive seen on this forum. Many 3rd gens are complaining about getting less than 20.

The 3rd Gen only does maybe 2 mpg better than the 2nd Gen.

from what I've seen most people complaining about fuel economy are also trying to race against v8s or sports cars. If they would drive them like the midsize trucks that they are they do a hell of a lot better.

That being said, now that I've got OV tune on mine, it's really hard to not drive it like a race car....

And of course, off-road and when towing it gets next to nothing because that's what happens when you put a load on a truck.

I previously owned a Ram Ecodiesel. There were a lot of things I loved about the truck. The fuel economy was great at first but after an ecm update it wasn’t much better than the hemi. Also, the truck became a basket case (the reason I went back to a Tacoma) and was once in the shop for 28 days. One thing about that engine... it’s not a Cummins. It’s an Italian motor (VM Motori) which makes parts hard to come by.

Because the Tacoma isn't a FooFoo truck.
Even seat warmers are well beyond the necessity in a truck.

People could also not be a whiny little girl when it comes to owning a truck. Turn the heater on if you're cold. Done.

The Tacoma is barely a truck, lets not kid ourselves here. Most people use these as their daily so creature comforts are nice to have.

The trucks get what it gets and you can’t argue against 1000s of data points against your position.

Lol ok buddy. Not trying to stake a flag on a hill here. Was just stating that I'm surprised the people get such terrible mileage, simply because my experience across 3 3rd gens has been pretty Stellar in terms of fuel economy

You’re surprised that peoples fuel economy is within what Toyota has determined and advertised?

Not sure Toyota is advertising 13mpg but that's what half the forum is getting apparently

I agree. It is barely a truck any more. It's not a full sized 1 ton, never really was a heavy hitter in load carrying, and towing, nor should it be. It started out as a "get r done" kinda rig that did a little of everything, and did it really well.

Perfect for tight trails, tight parking, parking in the garage, cruising the dunes, hunting, etc...

Each generation of this small Japanese pickup is catered more and more to the city folk, and less to the adventurer of the past.
These caterings are slowly turning this poor little pickup into just another car, that can "Land Over" (on pavement).

I'm hoping my '97 and '17 will both hold out forever, as I'm sure we will completely loose the pickup of the past, to the pavement pounders.

There will be no need for 4wd, 4Lo, locker, offroad tuned suspension, etc where we are headed.

    :(

Vent windows will never come back. 1998 Ford F250 is the newest vehicle to have them. Although I do love the look of them!
