LOL! It wouldn't be so funny, if it weren't true...
I'm with ya ... If I can't drive (As in the driver's seat) I'll stay at home, thank you ... And I totally get the 'road trip' thing over flying.
More memories and fun are on road-trips than will ever be made flying over Kansas (No dis to those in Kansas ... But you know what I mean.. ;))
When I bought my new Taco, I actually wanted a stick... I had to order it, but the lady I was working with at the dealer told me that for what I wanted, a stick was just not available.
I think, especially now days ... Having a stick is probably the best 'theft deterrent' there is. Very few now (kids) know how to drive them anymore.

Up till 6 years ago I had a 79' Dodge PowerWagon ... 360 with a 4bbl. If you wanted it to run right, you had better know how to use (Handheld) tach, vacuum gauge, timing light ...

Real oil pressure gauges? People would faint. Had a 98 Wrangler 4 banger and the pressure would drop to just above 10 psi at idle with the oil warmed up. Jeep Service Managers must have gotten tired of telling people that was the real pressure.

LOL! Yer probably right... Especially as now when so many engines run on 0-30w oil.
I still have a hard time wrapping my head around 'What is '0w' oil? Water? LOL!

My 93 T100 and my Silverado both have ‘real’ oil pressure gauges. I could see how they would freak out a lot of people
