I have a 2020 Off Road with the premium package. Every time I use the navigation it takes the worst possible routes. It's like there's a default setting to take the most scenic and longest route possible. I now use when running routine errands just for laughs. Well it was all fun and games until I got lost somewhere in BFE, had no cell signal and was at the mercy of the vehicle.

Am I missing something in the settings or it just that dumb?

Getting lost shouldn't be all that concerning with a name like Carlos Danger.

I did 1000+ miles a week for 2 years and can count on one hand the number of times i had an issue. There was a couple times it took routes that were much longer and once it wasn’t aware of a new road.

I’ve been all over the country with it and its been fine. I’m not sure how so many people have issues with it.

It’s not a great navigation system. One time it wanted me to drive 90 minutes for what was a 30 minute with heavy traffic trip. For some time I compared my phone to the truck, I followed the phone apps most of the time. Now, I might use the truck navigation once in a great while. Now, I love the map display and tracking. When I am off the beaten path, it gives me a way out i I get confused.

I must be old-school when it comes to fully trusting the GPS for navigation.

It doesnt matter if it's my phone, truck, or the telepathic ghost of Fernão de Magellan, I'll proofread (and familiarize) the route it suggests before the shifter slides out of park. Signals sometimes get blocked, electronics sometimes crash, and traffic conditions dont always get updated. I want to be sure that I can quickly course correct on visual alone.

If you aren’t planning your trips with a map, compass and protractor... you are in the wrong.

Since you have a 2020 with Android Auto/CarPlay, you can use google maps. When you set up your navigation, it will save the entire route in offline mode in case you lose cell service. You can't search a new route, but any routes already started when you have service will navigate without service.

We explored a large chunk of central Oregon with this handy feature a few weeks ago. We would go hours without any cell signal.

I’m not sure why we spend the money for navigation when we have cell phones and Waze.

I agree the gps routes are terrible. I think even worse is the voice command part of the nav systems. It’s never gotten a single thing right.

I’ve yet to use the navigation in my Taco however I am impressed that many (if not all) the unpaved forest roads I like to explore show on the map. Also the breadcrumb feature is really useful when exploring off-road.
