This is what I ended up going with...trucks up on blocks as I wait to get a new top hat from Toyota on Monday though. Except I had to compress them myself on the truck. Wish I had ordered them that way. Hopefully it'll all be finished soon

Plan on 4 to 6 hours depending on tools, rust and experience. I know because I swapped my coils out to 650# last weekend which is same effort you need to change clip settings. Took me 6 hours start to finish but about an hour of that was removing the anti sway bar and replacing the ball joint links on it and also includes time to get truck up on jacks and put tools away afterwards. Did not change clip setting but it’s a snap ring so would have taken another 10 minutes to change setting assuming it does not fly off and get lost. I was taking my time so If you got a good impact gun, minimal rust, and no distractions you might do it in under 4 hours. Local shop quoted 3 hours so 4-6 hour seems ballpark for first time you do this.

Thanks for this. All the more reason i need to be sure before i install. I am swapping the 700# coils to 650s but time would be the same. Thanks again

I did neither. Was told I didn’t need a diff drop as it really didn’t do anything and was waiting to see if I got any vibes before carrier bearing drop. Did buy shims in case too. Also bought ECGS bushing and tool. Haha

I did carrier bearing drop with 2" lift and it made the vibes go away. I didn't do diff but plan on it to help the angles

I just lifted a Tacoma this morning. Took me 2.5 hours to remove, disassemble, reassemble, then install 5100's. Same process for 6112. If it takes you 4-6 hours. you are doing something wrong.

I tend to agree. Shouldn’t take more than 3 tops.

Not going to argue that you can’t do it faster. Shop quoted 3 hours so if you done it before and have a well equipped garage, than I’ll believe 2.5 hours is feasible. I didn't do it wrong, but never did this particular task, had no reason to rush, so I took it slow to do it right and inspect other items while everything was apart. Since the question was asked by someone who apparently also never done it before and being unaware of their experience I gave my perspective and now they have yours.

Just keep in mind, that if you add a diff drop, you will not be able to ever mount an aftermarket front skid plate.

Thank you sir, kit comes with it but I'd rather have full skid and spare parts. Thanks for saving me from myself

Does anyone know why an access cab shouldn't use the 6/5 setting? I've read through the first 50 or so pages of this thread and didn't see it mentioned.

My guess would be the weight difference up front from the extra doors, seats etc or an extended plastic box.
The frame is the same. Well, on the short box anyways

Due to it being less weight you front end would be so high that you front axles would be at a crazy angle. You would go though front axle boots every 3 months.

Headstrong's Bilstein 6112/5160 kit, set on the 6th/5th clip and I'm happy with it, though I don't really have much to compare them with, besides the stock OR suspension that was replaced. Wishing I would have gone with a taller tire. 265's look a little small now lol.

I have read through this thread and there isn't a lot of talk about towing and leaf pack choice with the 5160s. I have a camp trailer with 3500 GVWR and a tongue weight of 500lbs all loaded up. With the stock suspension I have about 1.5” sag with the trailer hooked up. I will be getting sliders and skids soon after the lift, and the SSO front slimline plate bumper and winch in the future. I will probably only go to 265/75R16 tires to avoid the need to re-gear. I’m thinking to upgrade to the Bilstein 6112 on 3/2 with 650lb coils up front for 1" lift, and the 5160 in the rear. I want to be close to level with the trailer, and another 500-600lbs of passengers and cargo in the truck (me and the wife, ice chest, 2 bicycles, maybe some luggage. For the leaf pack I'm trying to decide between OME Dakar HD, or Deaver U402 stage 2, or Icon RTX stage 3. I am hoping to not have a WDW so I can take some fire roads without needing to disconnect the WDH and then having the rear sag when I need the clearance the most.

Let me refer you to something that I wrote a couple of pages back.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/bilstein-6112.421995/page-210#post-24191839
It is one thing to be towing all of the time or just once in a while. While a leaf pack will offer help with tongue weight, it will also give you lift in the rear all of the time without towing anything. An Icon RTX might be good then you can always stay on the stage 2 and move up to stage 3 if you are towing something and then back again when not. It will be a lot of work though. Maybe a DAKAR med with airbags as a better option.

The title of this thread is 6112, which is on the front. The rear end has so many options that can be paired with 6112 fronts.

For your situation my vote is OME Dakar Heavy. Cost effective and will handle loads amazingly better than stock or aal.

Yeah, I read that and came to the conclusion a full leaf pack is my best option for towing and moderate off road without the trailer (air bags are a no go)
