So what's the deal with auto vs manual. I just bought a pile of crap 2000 tacoma to fix up and flip. It has brand new rugged Ridge locking hubs, but the cv splines dont stick far enough out to engage on them. I am guessing it had auto hubs before, and someone just tried to put manual without switching the cv axles right?

Any pics? No idea how the locking hubs would fit if it had the ADD hubs.

They don't "fit". Now they will bolt up no problem, but they won't work because the cv shaft doesn't stick far enough to the spindle to touch the inner splines on the hub. There's not a lot of info on this system as a whole. I think I have it though

A.D.D.= auto hubs, spindle, cv shafts, vacuum disconnect, vacuum switch on top of transfer case. They all go together

manual hubs= hubs, cv shafts, spindles.

They wont interchange is what I am gathering. You cant just buy a manual hub and bolt it on like you can an Isuzu or Nissan of the same era.

    You are correct!!

The ADD system really has no hubs .

Just a dust Cover over the nut on the CV axle

Changing to the locking hubs is not hard you just need all the parts

There is no nut on my cv axles. There is a just a outer snap ring that keeps in from going back inside the spindle. So what you are telling me is auto hubs are not auto, they are engaged all the time? That sounds stupid. Not like toyota at all.

Look at this. These are what some goof put on my truck.15001.13-500x500.jpg

Notice how the internals are machined into the unit, the guts don't even start till about 1/2 inch in. Well my cv only sticks out about 1/2 inch. So nothing touches anything.

Ok.......now look at these. This is not just a generic photo, this is the actual part.
    th (5).jpg
The internals are not just more shallow, they are bossed outward with an oring to seal the unit up. Why has no one tried this? I think I am gonna try my $150 on it. I see absolutely no reason it wouldn't work.

The ones Toyota used were AISIN brand, same people who made your transmission, and your transfer case, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Yeah my CV doesn't look like anything near that, I bought the avm ones, I emailed them, they said they are aware no one makes replacements, and the rugged ridge product doesn't work, that why they started making and selling these. I will post soon as I bolt en in with some pictures

Any updates on this set up? Does anyone have a part number for the AVMs? I'd like to switch my 95 taco to manual.

    Thanks

Aisin manual hubs can be purchased new from multiple vendors.

Low range offers them for cheap.

You'll also need different hub axles if you are switching from ADD axles to manual hub axles. Most people just get an extra set of spindles and replace the wheel bearing while they're at it.

even sand blast & powder coat to make them look fancy
