I have a 2014 Tacoma TRD sport 4x4 that has an intermittent engine knock for about a couple weeks already. I took it to Toyota but they could not find the issue and said nothing was wrong. I have found a similar thread and was wondering if anyone else has or had this problem. The truck has 46K miles on it. The noise comes up mostly in park and when it put it into gear, it goes away then come back at lower RPMs when driving. Hopefully it’s nothing bad and I appreciate any advise or insight! If it just is a noise, that is fine as long as it is not a major mechanical problem.

Sounds like the serpentine belt might need to be tightened of any loose slack. But I am probably wrong, as mechanical is not my mojo.

Oh ya we heard that from a few friends and change it this past weekend but it didn’t stop the sound. Thank you for your input though!

We might try and test for an exhaust leak this weekend!

I was thinking the same thing but it was concerning to me how it got louder a couple weeks ago out of nowhere.

Yeah that does sound a little loud. Also, might want to check on the condition of your tensioner/idler pulleys if you change the serpentine belt. Make sure they aren't wearing out. I just had a belt snap on me because the pulley on the tensioner rusted out. If it turns out nothing is wrong, there is a mini mod you can do to reduce engine tick a little

It only has 46000 miles on the engine. No need for serpentine belt, tensioner or any of that. Most of the noise is from injectors, valves, etc.. You want an engine that doesn't make noise buy a Tesla.

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
My '14 (V6/6MT) sounds about the same, to be honest, with 42000 miles on it. Plus an assortment of other random noises related to rotating assemblies and whatnot. I do tend to get a lot of dust under the hood, and I'd imagine the pulley bearings are only going to tolerate so much. Not saying it's the serpentine belt, but I'm probably going to pull mine off this winter and swap it when I do the driveline fluids and front brakes.

I’d use a piece of tubing in the ear to find out if one of your pulleys was going out. Start there.
