I rented one from Off The Grid Rentals. Worked great. Had no issues.

This isn't near you so not much help but just for some info these guys rent out Tepui RTT for $55 a day CDN. Pretty cheap way to try out a RTT

CVT had info on their website about renting a tent, you could try calling them. And to answer your original question, yes it is a great idea to rent. It will let you see if a RTT fits your style of camping instead of just listening to the opinions of people who have never used one.

Stopped reading others posts, too many folks telling you an RTT is a bad choice.

To answer your question, yes you can rent an RTT, I am thinking next time I head west, if I haven’t bought one yet, I may rent to see if it’s right for my situation

I think asking around in the RTT Thread would probably be more helpful to you.

Id recommend giving it a try before spending 2000$+ on a rack/ tent.

I absolutely love mine and it's the only way I can get my wife to sleep outdoors. If we end up having kids I will absolutely buy another one and put it on a trailer.

You obviously haven’t overland with a rtt, it makes sense in some situation and it does not in others. Depending on how you travel a rtt can be (but not always) awesome to have.

Additionally you need the right RTT, I started with a traditional fold out RTT with the soft cover and hated it, I had the same option you have, that it’s the stupidest thing in the world. I have since switched to a clam shell style tent and love it. Setup in 10 seconds flat and take down inside 1 minuet. I can stop in the middle of the road and be in bed in literally seconds.

    Pretty much off topic.....

But my wife and I have been looking for RTTs for quite some time. While the are nice, we elected and still go with our "ground tent".

There are some awesome advantages to a RTT. However, our tent we have used for the past few years simply works. Yes it takes about 10 to 15 min to set up....teardown is about the same.

The funds we saved from getting the RTT let's us do other things.

We camp a ton....friends that have RTTs that go with us get setup in no time! That is a huge plus! However...we are able to pitch our tent wherever and can leave it be. I cant tell you how many times when camping and we want to go somewhere with the Taco. Everyone Piles into our truck and we are off and running!

We love our MEGA tent!....sets up quickly...packs up less than quickly...but it works for us.
