    New to Tacoma World!

So I just purchased a new 2020 Tacoma Off-Road Double Cab and I noticed these "bubble-like" defects in the paint on the front part of the hood. These bubbles are very small and only along the front edge of the hood, above the grill surround between the left and right headlights (approximately 9-10 of them).

Also, it looked like some type of paint was put on two ends of the front hood as well. Is this what they do from the factory?

I inspected all other panels of the Taco and all around the rest of the hood. I did not see any other bubbles or defects in the paint.

The dealer said it was unusual and no fault of mine, so they are contacting corporate and said they could offer to repaint the hood. I was wondering if its worth the hassle to re-paint the hood and if its a common defect.

Has anyone else dealt with these issues?

And would they develop into bigger issues as time passes?

Almost looks repainted , the corner chips forsure . The shitty part when I worked for a dealer and brand new truck could be damaged up to xx% and they could fix it without disclosing it to the buyer

The dots appear to be "solvent pop". The ends of the hood look like too much paint was applied causing runs that broke off. This is not at all typical of robot applied factory paint. I think that the hood may have been repainted either by the dealer or at the factory. Good luck with a repaint if that is what you chose to do. Thing is....futher work if not done by a very good painter could be worse.

I'm not familiar with "solvent pop." Does that have the potential to turn into something worse as the years go by and the hood gets exposed to the different seasonal temperatures?

The dealership I bought the truck from wasnt the original dealer that the truck was shipped to. I'll be following up with the dealer for sure to see if the original dealership disclosed anything to them.

That's a good point....having it repainted for those defects that are out of sight may not be worth the hassle. And there's no other issues anywhere else on the exterior of the vehicle. I know rock chips will eventually develop on the hood and the truck runs fine. May not be worth the hassle of having them re-paint it.

I would say that’s a repaint. It appears the hood sat on the corners when it was sprayed. That’s not typically how they look from the factory.

Also looks like there is overspray paint on the hood gasket? That’s also weird.

Yeah definitely sucks they missed it when it got delivered to them. I inspected the exterior of the truck as well before purchasing it, but obviously I missed it as well. I was mostly concerned about the frame and under carriage and making sure it was well coated for rust prevention. Definitely contacting the dealer again, I'm sure they won't accept it as a return, but hopefully they have a solution to the problem.

    A few.
My 2019 had what looked like runs in the paint at the top of the grill surround. Dealer was ready to order a new grill. It turned to be left over adhesive from the white film coverings they put on the trucks during transport and was able to be cleaned off.

Isn't it possible that something happened to the hood area after the dealer took delivery and it was fixed there? As others have said, that's not typical of something that gets through quality control and robots do a much better job to begin with. I'd bet the dealer is giving you the run around with "checking to see if they can get it fixed with corporate" - but most likely so they can take care of you and look like they saved the day.

I'd have them redo it but then there's the auto history part - not sure if something like a hood repaint would show up in the history

The Toyota Rep inspected the hood and said it was solvent pops. They are going to re-paint the hood under warranty. I also got another opinion from a certified Toyota collision center, and they think it was re-painted as well.
