My neighborhood has had a rash of car prowlers. I park my 2012 Tacoma in the driveway. I'm thinking about building something that will alert me when the door handle is lifted during car prowling hours. I think using an Arduino would be cool (I have programmed them in the past), but I don't know how it would interface with the truck to know that the handle was lifted. Any thoughts on doing that? I want to receive the alert so I can call the sheriff, but I don't want the truck to notify the prowler.

    Thanks!

Seems like a lot of folks near me have Ring doorbells and have them in locations to cover their cars. They are constantly alerting the neighborhood through the app that it happened and sharing the video. They often call the police about it. Obviously it won't alert ONLY when you truck door is checked, but any motion alerts you.

I have a 2 way remote start, alarm. You could go that route and not hook up the siren.

Driveway spotlights with motion sensor stops a lot of prowling.
