Installed front shocks now my truck 2 inches lower in the front

Need help is there a difference between the 2wd 4cly in shocks when I go to buy online they all have the same part number

But my truck is a V6 4wd double cap I don’t know if the spring rate is different from an regular cap 4cly bc it’s lighter when I called them they said that the only one that they have for the 1st gen Tacoma. I’m 19in 1/2 from center cap in the front and 22in something in the back

 

You sure your truck was stock height to begin with?

 

Shocks don't set ride height.

If you changed the whole coilover, you got shorter and/or weaker springs.

 

It’s a full shock assembly there’s another thread guy said stock from center cap to fender is 21in 7/8 my truck sitting at 19in 1/2 right now

 

Didn't you lay the new hardware next to your old before installing?

If not, jack till one corner is full droop (tire off ground) and do some comparisons to the old bits.

Betting that's where you'll find your 2"

 

I'm not familiar with that brand for that part at all but the 2wd first gens that aren't Prerunners definitely sit a lot lower than 4wd versions. Almost certain that a coil spring designed for a 2wd truck would not work on a 4wd model. Cab style and engine size also probably change the spring rate.

Double check fitment when you're buying parts, and buy on RockAuto if you're having trouble with this, they make it really easy.

 

I think there is a diffident difference between regular cap and double cap spring rate but I don’t understand any where you go advanced or pep boys or autozone they all have only 1 shock for 1st gen

 

Go to a Toyota dealer and see what they say.

 

Website says 4x4 or pre-runner but not if its v6 or i4.

That said, they are dirt cheap and probably iffy quality.

Return them and buy a better set.

Rock auto shows same part # for quick struts v6 or i4. Monroe.

and they weren't cheap ass replacements then? And they weren't from some RANDOM website? Did I miss THAT part?

 

What coilovers were you replacing - stock ones, aftermarket ones? If a part was spec’d for your truck it would have to keep it at stock height or higher. 2” lower means you bought something that wasn’t a reputable product or you’re replacing something that lifted you 2”.

 

Got pics of the old stuff?

 

If you look at a regular cap 4cly 2wd Tacoma and a double cap 4wd v6 there a difference in height not to mention all that added weight to the front bc of all those

 

2” difference?
