My wife and I both have NiteCore NM01 flashlights for personal carry, I have an old maglite 3 cell converted to cree bulb in my truck, got two Klarus 360X3 Lights 3200 lumens in the mail now coming for vehicle carry.

Decided to pick this one up. 200 hours on a single charge or it will charge your phone 3 times. Plus some of the purchase goes to Tread Lightly.

My vehicle light is the Fenix TK47UE. I carry daily because of my occupation, my current daily is the Fenix TK22UE, just picked up the Fenix TK30 white laser. My camping light is the Fenix TK75 (18), it’s bright !!!

That Fenix TK47UE appears to be discontinued. Any idea of a suitable equivalent? I do not see where it was replaced by another version but I probably missed it.

I purchased mine back in Jan of 2019, did not know they discontinued the TK47 series. I checked their site, I’m a bit surprised, mine is actually the non UE edition, forgot that.

No idea on a good replacement, was originally going to get the TK65R, it’s a little more but comes with a battery and has the external micro usb charging port. I opted for the 47 because it was unique and had the tail cap light.

The 47 is more of a throw light vs the 47UE is an in-between throw/flood, both great lights.

If you ever go to u-tube, type in “ Fenix Charles BridgeTec “ he has some good reviews.

You can geek out on flashlights just as much as knives or anything else. BLF and CPF (or TLF if you’re in Europe) are interesting sites. I don’t buy lights, I buy hosts and make them worthy of EDC. There’s just not much mass market that holds a candlepower to decent DIY. 1k lumens is bottom shelf stuff for DIY, as are Mag dropins. Solid copper mcpcb’s, aspheric throwers, multi-led, multi-cell direct drive hand warmers, it’s all game.

I just have a traditional old little mag light that I've had for about 12 years and a cheapo energizer headlamp. Aside from added lumens, distance and spread or a potential self defense situation, what are the advantages of a flashlight over a headlamp?

I have a headlamp, which I use when working on something in the garage, attic. Doubt if I would have it with me otherwise. The advantage for me is positioning light where I need it, without it moving. My E30R Fenix came with a hat clip.. sort of a headlamp, but sticks out past the tailcap too much for me. I promptly changed it to a pocket clip. I also put heat shrink, or a silicone stretch ring on the tailcap, which I use when I need both hands.. again, sort of a headlamp, and I always have it with me.
I use 3M mounting tape to secure a silicone ring to the light, since not much else sticks to silicone.

my sf tactician is my edc, but i do keep a light in my taco and sequoia. the sequoia has an sf peacekeeper. my taco has an old school brand new sf 6p that i found in one of my deployment footlockers. still had that incandescent bulb, but went with a new school led drop in from malkoff devices; simply love it.

Does the flashlight accept a USB plug or do you need to pull the battery and charge that?

it’s a chargeable battery. Also, it bugs me less than I thought it would.
