bumping this old thread b/c i'm having the same issue out of the blue now. Hooked up a trailer this afternoon I use all the time at work and I have no running lights. Blinkers, brakes and hazards do work, just not running lights. Hooked the trailer up to a co-worker's truck really quick here at the office and running lights work so its gotta be an issue with the connector on my tow package. Have not gone through all the steps yet listed above but will do so when I get home tonight and put a Volt Meter on it.

Anybody ever replaced the factory tow connector with a new one? I'm cringing at what Toyota wants for it :annoyed:

I had the same problem, no trailer tail lights but signals and brakes worked fine. I replaced the 30 amp (green) fuse in the box in the engine compartment next to the battery labeled "Towing Tail" and that fixed my problem.

I'm going to bump this one. Same problem. I'm moving and my running lights on the trailer won't work. All the other lights work. Honestly I'm thinking of just jumping power from one of the tail lights to the plug. No blown fuses, swapped the relay... Just no damn running lights.

I double checked my fuses under the hood and found that 30 amp fuse was blown. I missed it the first time I checked but that was my issue.

Before you jump power from the lights to the plug, use a volt meter to see if you have power at your plug. Borrow one if you don't have one. Use this diagram to check power.

This fuse wasn't burnt on my truck until after I installed a Tekonsha P3 controller and hooked up to the 7 pin. Running lights didn't work before the install either (trailer tow 30 amp fuse NOT BLOWN). Fuse replaced. Running lights work!

Went to tow with my truck a little while back and didn't have running lights on the trailer only and tested the plug to find no power to the pin for running lights. Found this thread today and sure enough the 30 amp mini low profile fuse for the trailer tail was blown. It got even better that Advanced Auto and Autozone both didn't have a replacement for the fuse short of getting a $25 assorted pack of the fuses.

That's a bummer they didn't have a small pack but now you have fuses for possibly multiple vehicles for a long time.

Glad this thread helped you too.

My local NAPA didn't have the mini 30 either. But my assorted pack only cost $8. Nice having lights though!

I wound up finding a multi pack from walmart for $4, but haven't put it in yet to verify that was the issue. Is this a common thing in that I should grab a few extra?

I wouldn't say it is a common issue, it's caused by the system getting overloaded which can be from a bad ground, short in the trailer's wiring harness etc.

I caused my fuse to blow by tinkering with my boat's trailer lights while everything was hooked up, truck running and of course lights on. My mistake but lesson learned and thanks to this thread it was simply a blown fuse.

Hey guys, Here is some help on this. Behind the driver seat open up the spot where the jack goes and you will see four 5 amp fuses. 9 times out of ten one of those fuses is blown. My problem is I'm getting no current to that fuse for my running lights. Hope this helps!

Add me to the chump list. 30 Amp fuse failed. For those without a spare you can get by with the 15 Amp spare that is inside the fuse box cover. Especially if your trailer has LED's. Takes a lot of LED's to draw anything close to 30Amps.
