The ultimate foglight upgrade H11 (not LED or HID)

When you say "Gonna see if reconnecting a few wires fixes that" I cringe. Does that mean that the pervious headlight housings required some surgery to the wiring harness? If that's the case, your work is about to get much more interesting.

 

Some mild surgery to remove unnecessary wiring. Since it was a full HID swap, they wired in the transformers and everything. That was fun trying to figure out what belonged with the truck, and was after market. Fortunately, the wiring wasn't spliced into, and it was just a matter of unplugging stuff till I got back to the original harness.

What I meant by "reconnecting a few wires" was simply unplugging and re plugging in all wires going to the fixture. Since it is a halogen projector headlight, the high beams are controlled by a flap that goes up in down inside the fixture, and not by changing the brightness of the bulb.

I don't have before and after pics of the headlights, but here's and idea of what the wiring for the fogs used to look like, vs what they look like now

Keep in mind, I had wiring like this for every light. And the Headlights were extra weird since they're after market and use different wiring themselves. Plus, many of the connections were covered in electrical tape so I couldn't see what was what.

 

Good grief, what a mess! At least as you said they didn't splice into anything. I can't stand looking at or working on hacked wiring.

 

Ya, when I first saw that, I initially thought I was gonna have to replace both lighting harnesses and as well as the headlight fixtures. At that point I was dead set on immediately installing the ultimate fog and head light mods. Off the mindset, "If i'm gonna replace it anyways, I might as well go ahead with the mods I was gonna do later"

But it seems the fogs work for now. I'll see how they do in the winter, maybe come summer i'll upgrade them

No harness needed to go from a 9006 to a 9012, they are rated at the same wattage.

Wow, I had not seen that Volsa released a +120 version of the 9012. I wonder when that was released. Agreed that would be even better.

Since I only use the fogs in bad weather, never during the day, I much prefer yellow bulbs. I am a huge fan of Nokya Hyper Yellow bulbs when not wanting to replace the factory housing. They pair perfectly with any halogen or HID setup. I chose the H11 version due to the cap coating on the top of the bulb. Since the factory housings have no integrated cap in the reflector, the bulb acts as the reflector cap itself, reason being why I didn't swap from H11 to H9. I'll have output shots as soon as I swap my HID's into the koito stock projector.

After doing the ultimate h4 upgrade on my Tacoma my wife has a gripe w/ her Subaru Crosstrek lighting output.

Her stock lamps are H11 and I’m wondering if you think the fog light harness upgrade from Rally Lights would be a a viable option to run in conjunction with higher output bulbs.

Any thoughts?

 

For H11 headlights, check out the H11 thread. Does her Crosstrek have projectors or reflector headlights? I wouldn't suggest the Flossers for the headlights.

Ok I'll do some more reading. Her Crosstrek is MT so it is only available with reflector style housings.

So after doing the ultimate headlight upgrade my fog lights became useless so I decided to make my own harness and do this upgrade. Just like before the results were amazing! Light on the ground is just as bright and goes easily 10 off to the side. I dont know if I saved any money over making my own harness but I wanted to be able to have the same quality and parts as Headlight Services Harness that I already have.

I crimped and soldered on all terminals. So the only special tool that I have is needle nose pliers and a soldering iron. I had these already on hand no no big purchases there.

For the lengths of each of the run.

8ft from relay to passenger side foglight
3ft from relay to drivers side foglight
3ft from relay to drivers side harness
2ft from relay to postive side of battery
2ft from relay to negative side of battery

Again I wanted a Head Light Services Harness quality and parts for the fogs to the key pieces are the Little Fuse Holder, Mini Relay Socket and Relay. The Relay is the most important and not your typical type of relay as it will switch 2 legs instead of 1 and will power each fog light on its own run. Pretty slick if you ask me.
