Dog transportation - I’m new

Sorry I keep trying to ask or reply to certain posts on this dog thread ( like the adorable dog w the costumes!! Omg !made my day!!)
I hit “ start a conversation “ so I’m gonna have to go back to research ( my first online forum )
Anyhoo - I have a gunner small kennel and a large and xl Ruffland kennel - I much prefer the ruffland !( My gunner weighs a ton and I only bought it bc I got it 75% off!!) My Westie rides in that long trips !
Ruffland sells Kennels thru Llbean ( free shipping !!) just fyi now Orvis is handling them too I think ?
The large should fit easily under a camper top but XL is very tall ! (30” tall at center!) they just came out with new ones for truck backseats! That fit easily back to back and facing the doors ! ( you can see on the website) they have water holders etc too !
I just ordered a tie down kit to attach to corners of my large & xl Kennels -
I love that I can leave the door off , my mutt sleeps in there at night

My dog is pretty small so I prefer a soft travel carrier like the ones people use for flying. They are really light and mine collapses so it takes up very little space. I just leave it in the back seat and if I need to move it around it's as easy as moving a backpack.

That’s nice! My Westie normally rides w a vest tethered but if I go a long way I use the kennel - I’ll check that out! I need a ramp for my big dog!

 

My three idiots prefer the back seat hammock. I have yet to find a product that will keep the hair from absolutely trashing the interior though. I keep looking for that solution.

1. Put harness on dog.
2. Holler for her to get in the damn truck.
3. Dog jumps into back seat.
3. Hook short leash to harness and seatbelt. (this is not for dog safety, this is to keep a 90 lb meat missile from hitting a human in an accident))
4. Drive. Have driven like this for thousands of miles no problem. This method allows the dog the ultimate pleasure of ear flapping, eye squinting bliss as she hangs her head out the window at 70 mph. And, they are safely secured.

 

My housewolf rides in the back of the cap and sticks her head out the windoor. The camper platform is carpeted with outdoor carpet and so she gets plenty of grip and can get plenty of sniffs.



If it's too hot or cold for the windows to be down, I close up the cap and open the window to the cab up front. She gets a fair bit of AC back there surprisingly.

 

I am planning on getting a cap 90 pcnt so I my pups can jump in, roam around in the back and stick their heads out the windoors! I was wondering about the AC if you leave the sliders open on both the cab and cap. On your windoor, if you close it, can you still slide it open enough to get their head out?

 

Welcome to the forums! You'll figure it out in no time. As far as dog transportation in a kennel, I'm not much help. I do use "car seats" for mine.

But any reason to post more pictures of dogs in costumes is good for me

She's strapped in, you just cant see it through the fuzz. The dog wears a harness the clips in to the car seat and the car seat buckles in.

I know a kennel is better, but I would need a full sized van to haul my pack....

 

Do you mean the sliding window on the windoor? A pupper could definitely put a head out of that window. I have a screen there and leave it there for camping though, so if the windoor is down there are no heads out windows.

The sliding window at the front of the camper / back of the cab has no screen. She puts her head through that into the cab.

 

Please let me know if you find a solution for raging dog fur in a vehicle. I have a Yellow Lab and the hairs are out of control!!

 

Get a standard poodle or aany poodle mix. If that is not an option, get a black dog. If that is not an option, shave the dog. This is what I do.

 

After being involved in a really bad car wreck, the pups ride in crates. We got
lucky, injuries were minor. Not taking the chance again...

Those look nice. Do you strap the crates down?

 

I still need to - I have the kit that bolts the crates together and then will strap these to the hooks in the bed.

 

Weathertech makes nice door covers and you can buy one of those back seat divider/cover for your furry friends.

 

Hey! You got the gorgeous orange too! I wondered if you used the v ring attachments or the angle tie down attachments ? It’s so confusing bc they sell two kinds ( to attach to the corners of crates to strap down )
