I think this really is a normal characteristic of the truck. Some more than others. I, too, started a case and all that, but all the other TRD OR on the lot had it at some degree, and in the end, all I got was a free extended warranty, which I'll probably never need.

Had the vibration since day 1. Now 4 years and 70K miles, its either improved slightly or I've gotten so used to it that I don't notice it anymore.

Deceleration. 25mph to 10 mph. More so while braking, but will happen to a lesser extent while coasting or in neutral. It's from the driveline.

Yes, I agree that it's driveline-related. I live in a hilly area and tested it this way: From a dead stop I put it in neutral and let it roll down a hill. As soon as it got to around 20mph, the vibrations started, then once it got to about 30 they dissipated. So yeah, driveline related. Definitely a characteristic of the truck (I wouldn't exactly call it 'normal') but I agree that many of them do it. My thinking is that as this isn't an overt safety issue, Toyota really has no reason to look for a fix.

Just did 175 mile loop this afternoon traveling at all different speeds in the truck. Only thing you feel is the bumps on some roads. Zero vibrations of any sort, so i don't know what this is about.

That is what makes this whole thing crazy. I drove mine with the service manager, who says he owns one himself, and he says his has the vibration as well. He pointed it out as soon as we felt it on our drive together in my truck, and we felt it in another '20 Tacoma we took right off the lot for a test drive that day. I agree and have seen from these threads that not every truck does this. But there are vibrations in many trucks; those of us who are experiencing this are not dreaming. I've driven plenty of cars and trucks in my life and never have experienced this type of vibration in a brand-new vehicle. My '84 Jeep CJ vibrates a little at 40mph due to a 1.5" leaf spring lift... the feeling is very similar.

Just seeing this thread now. I have a 19 offroad and have the same vibes. 25-10mph rumble strip type vibration. Truck has had it since new. I did lift it about 2.5” all around and the vibes did not change. I think it’s a Tacoma thing.

Yes, seems to be 'normal,' which is unfortunate as the truck is otherwise great.

All these threads seem to end up in the same place- some people claim not to have these vibrations, some have them and accept them as “normal”. Others claim they go away (or they get used to it), while still others say that they have fixed their vibes one way or another. Who knows what to believe, except for the fact that this vibration problem seems to be widespread and that Toyota doesn’t give a shit about it. My ‘19 SR5 has these decel vibes. In my case the vibes go away with a few hundred pounds in the bed- which leads me to believe it’s the driveline.

I ordered a Tom Woods one piece drive shaft and received it about a week ago, now I just need to find the time to install it. I’ll report back once it’s on my truck...

Right now my 2020 sr5 v6 auto has zero vibrations of any kind. ...it runs very smooth, just glides along. I actually think its better than my 2001 tundra ever was.

Yes, I agree this is driveline-related. Drove it just this morning and did a little downhill test. Put in in neutral and let it roll down a long hill. As soon as it hit around 20mph, the vibes started; at around 25mph they disappeared.

I am very interested to know if the Tom Woods driveshaft corrects this as I was considering it, though Toyota tells me this will void my warranty.

Please keep us posted on this. Thanks!

Reporting back- I paid $575, shipped, for my Tom Woods drive shaft. It showed up with the stretch wrap “stuck” to its not quite completely cured paint back in August. This left some ugly wrinkles and other paint issues- Tom Woods was good about dealing with it, and took care of me, but it meant that I needed to repaint before installing.

I finally did that, and had a chance to install the one piece shaft this weekend. So far so good- I’m definitely impressed. My truck is noticeably smoother through acceleration up to highway speeds, and more importantly the decel vibrations that I was experiencing seem to be completely gone. No more rumble strip vibes at 20 mph while slowing down. I only notice the downshift now. Is this the magic solution? Probably, but I’m sure that there are factors unique to each truck that will come into play.

simple enough, keep your old driveline, and if you ever have a power train problem that requires warranty, just swap in the original driveline.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear the driveshaft solution worked. It's at least good to know that there can be a solution for this.

moving from a 2nd gen that vibed to a third gen, there were a lot of 2nd genners that got rid of their vibes with a new one piece driveline. Some of the 2nd genners mounted a go pro aimed at the carrier bearing, and it was shocking how much movement the carrier bearing allowed. Using the one piece driveline got rid of all of that movement.

Happy this corrected your problem. Maybe it'll be a solution for others.
